What I Seem

In the cold hard dawn of our loss,
in the dream just before sleep.
In the countless lines we cross,
in the dark whirlwinds we reap.
In the mirage of troubled visions,
in a brilliant and particular dream.
I will stand by every decision,
I will be more than what I seem.

In the mockery of ceaseless years,
in the labors that shape our calling.
In the name of truth as it appears,
in the name of mercies at last falling.
In the debt of a voice beyond reason,
in the service of a song so serene.
I will not condone a hint of treason,
I will be more than what I seem.
