This was a good passage to choose Geoffrey as touches on so many aspects of the book;
his strange but funny sense of humour, the experimental poetry – very sound based, the pushing it to the limits of comfort and then going WAY beyond that … but also amongst all of that, the emotional tug of a man who just wants his wife (that doesn't get lost) The other thing that stands out for me in that passage was how the Narrator seemed to wish to connect with Edith in something that they shared, in a way that they were physically the same, desperately wanting that bond with her.

yes, very 'sound based' indeed. the unpredictable quick-fire words appearing seemingly haphazardly on the page make it a difficult piece to recite - especially as there is little or no punctuation. not easy reading it in one take, without stumbling - so it warms the heart to learn that it was appreciated by at least one person - one lovely person. thank you, dear cate. x

'pigskin crackling' gets more specific towards the end, doesn't it - one is left in little doubt of what he is after. adult literature at its finest. can't understand why i am the first to read it aloud; it's an excellent example of a cat walking around hot porridge.
