Doesn't have the depth of LC, but still an incredible songwriter with a compelling voice - one of my favorites - thank you Steven.

dont know about that...sometimes listening to LC feels like having gone to a chick flick or something....a chick flick thats trying to impress you with "deep" words - as someone said here a long time ago ..."marching around in the circle of thought" I think it was Young dr. Freud.

Hi,
I'll stay out of the who's deeper conversation. Two things that Leonard Cohen and Kris Kristofferson have in common (and most master songwriters, probably), is that they are highly intelligent and educated. Kris Kristofferson is a Rhodes Scholar.

So true Steven.
Kush - While there are a number of LC songs that are 'lighthearted' and 'fun', overall, I still get the sense that his lyrics come from the fact that he started out as a poet. Maybe I should have said that he knows how to 'turn a phrase' or that he has 'a way with words' in so many of his lyrics. Whatever it is, it still comes across to me as someone who has put a lot of thought into what he is saying and 'marching around in the circle of thought' is not a negative connotation for me. When you listen to a Kristofferson song, the meaning is clearly apparent. With LC, as with the best of poets, the words become subject to much discussion and interpretation. Perhaps that is where I get the feel that they have more depth. All this said with IMHO.
Either way, I love listening to both of them, although LC will always be number one for me.
Kindest regards,
Mary

Hi MaryB,
I guess I dont really care about individual artists so much (be it Leonard Cohen or Kris Kristofferson or Bruce Springsteen etc etc) as with the entirety of songs of all musicians (or atleast those that I know of). I like and respect all of these guys but only up to a point. I believe the best of poets can write poetry that is ambiguous as well as words that are completely clear in its intent and meaning at first glance. It's all good. But to each his or her own - I see where you are coming from.
