(some of this is mine, some of it is not.)

She loved to climb the willow – listen to it’s whispers. Tall
summer grasses told her stories when the wind picked up.
She believed the gun-shaped birthmark on her ankle
was a personal message from God, believed that circles
pressed into the sand offered protection from bad spirits.
He wants to plan a dull escape.

He remembers a time when earthquakes came
quietly, when the sun never had to beg for forgiveness.
He climbs a greyhound headed for the west – leaves
behind a letter for the east. He wishes away the sunrise,
wants to live in the pinks and purples. Wants to feel
the dull ache of a bruise

as it spreads. She sits beside him. A backpack. Forty dollars
shoved in a side pocket. She doesn’t look out the window,
doesn’t notice the old man hacking and muttering
behind them. West is fine. Sunsets are fine. She just wants
the driver to turn that key.

both were part of a 'message in the bottle' challenge in which you were to choose at least one 'bottle' and use the lines without changing them. It was quite fun.
