holy land

This is something I wrote several years ago while traveling through Italy.

holy eyes in the sky
as the night slips away
titian hues portrait lights
as the tide slips away
listen to the barcarole
rythyms of the soul for you and me
venice skies spirit ties
in the land of make believe
clergymen monastic blends
it's so hard to achieve
listen to the barcarole
calling for the soul of you and me

eternally, i can make no promises
but i can move a colliseum with some sleight of hand
i can still your trembling heart beside me
but you'll never know if it's really me or
the holy land

summer time we leave the rain
drinkin appennini wine
the arno valley in our brains
the blue sky so fine
della francesca views
calling for the muse in you and me
we take the tour cortona streets
heaven at the end
we climb and climb no one to meet
footprints in the sand
della francesca views
calling for the muse in you and me

naturally i can take your hand in mine
and i can walk into the pantheon or the lions den
i can calm the thunder how above you
as we sit in wonder at the lights of
the holy land

the renaissance the humanists
lovers come and see
gregorian chants high romance
boccacio in our dreams
madrigal's the sound we hear
echoing through years of history

and classically i will take your hand in mine
and i will love you like the lovers of forgotten lands
try to soothe the savage beast that haunts us
as we walk along the streets of art in
the holy land

Molto bella~!!

Once in Italy, it's my opinion one is officially "under the influence" for the rest of their life.

Love your poem.

Laurie

very dense, very vivid, very rich. would make a great song. reminds me of the 70's dylan stuff on Desire like Romance In Durango, Mozambique, Isis.
i liked it.
