I wrote this after reading and being inspired by "Daddy's Little Princess"........ thank you!!


Daddy, Daddy

Daddy, Daddy will you look at me
Prettiest thing you’ll ever see
Big blue eyes and long blonde hair
Face of an angel laying there

Daddy, Daddy will you look at me
Opening presents ‘neath a Christmas tree
Riding my bike, with you in the park
Light is on, afraid of the dark

Daddy, Daddy will you look at me
Walking to school but I’m home at three
Got to read my book, like teacher said
Drink hot chocolate, early to bed

Daddy, Daddy will you look this way
Going to get straight A’s is what they say
Need a dress real soon for the school dance
Going to tease all the boys if I get the chance

Daddy, Daddy will you look at me
Need a nice car, pay my college fee
Met some new friends, when I was away
Got to loosen up lots, or so they say

Daddy, Daddy will you look at me
Out till late, got my drinks for free
Love to party, love the sound
Paying my way by sleeping around

Daddy, Daddy will you look at me
Need some help, can you hear my plea
Got lots of bills and debts to pay
Do my exams again some day

Daddy, Daddy will you look at me
Still the prettiest thing you’ll ever see
Pale grey skin and lips so blue
Laying cold on a slab staring at you

Daddy, Daddy the doctor said
She’s full of drink and drugs and dead
Carrying your body through the park
Sleeping tonight in the dark

Daddy, Daddy will you listen to me
Tell my sister that life aint free
It’s full of pain, love will come and go
Help her more - if you please tell her – NO!

I like it, but wouldn't it be more of an adaptation?
... perhaps there's another term for it.

Hi Cate, thanks for your welcome - appreciate it. I have to apologize for my poetry writing, I don't know anything about poetry sorry.
I saw the lovely words by Karren B "Daddys Little Princess" and I started strumming a song with the words in "Daddy, Daddy" - I have a compulsion to write things down I'm afraid - I get up at 3am and scribble stuff down on bits of paper - my wife thinks I'm mad - she's right.....

Well 'mad' is a good start! Sounds like you have a need to write.
Your poetry/lyrics seem fine to me and I'm looking forward to seeing what else you post as you seem to come from more a songwriters perspective.

Thanks Cate - I am working on 3 things at the moment, though I'm not sure what the rules are to post on here?
I'm new to this kind of thing..... If I see something that moves me I just get a phrase or two pop into my head and I cant rest until its either a poem or a song - it started about a year ago - it drives my wife nuts
