Just select "musical choices" and search on Leonard Cohen.


Only 17 have selected Leonard Cohen Tracks. These include John Cale,David Gilmour and Alan Parker.

i haven't decided who to pick for my 8 yet.

will it be `first past the post` voting system so the records which receive the most votes get played or will the producers/presenter pick what they think they are quirky etc?

if it's the former i may have to engage in tactical voting.

if i was on the programme for real i'd probably pick some poppy songs which remind me of my childhood - e.g. `world without love` by peter and gordon and `hold me` by p.j.proby.

however, if it's `first past the post` then for this programme they'd be wasted votes.

will the bbc be checking IP numbers to stop multiple voting?

i believe subscribers to a tunnelling service - e.g. http://www.secure-tunnel.com - get fresh IP numbers every time they switch on so if that's true those with such a subscription could vote (for leonard, of course) hundreds of times.

this morning - 2 hours, 28 minutes and 40 seconds into `today` on radio 4 - there was a trail for the desert island voting programme.

an unidentified woman seemed keen on leonard cohen's hallelujah being included.

Jolly good - I've just voted (for Anthem). But really, how does anyone choose only one LC track? I asked myself which one is going to play at my funeral, and there we are...

Interesting how the tracks chosen by the celebs stacked up - who'd have thought Closing Time would have come out top (from an album that features Anthem and Light as the Breeze, too!)? And trust arch-luvvie Jeremy Irons to pick an offbeat one - I like Dear Heather very much, but Vilanelle for our Time???

it's stressful isn't it having to pick just 8.

has it got to be only one song/tune per artist?

The BBC has added a new Desert Island Discs feature to its website, asking each of us to submit our eight choices. What an honour!

A flurry of emails from friends, agonising over their selections, suggests it's actually a covert means of industrial sabotage. "There goes my whole day," said a friend, who fired off no less than nine revisions to his list as the hours ticked by.

There went my day too as I pondered the age old questions: Dylan or Leonard Cohen? Coltrane or Keith Jarrett? I hit upon a preliminary eight - then realised it was all a bit gloomy. A Curtis Mayfield later, I was wondering who to drop: Serge Gainsbourg or Benjamin Britten? The National or Kate Bush?

I imagine most of us would spend our time on the desert island in silence, wishing we had chosen otherwise. Perhaps it's a mark of the confidence of the usual guests that the most popular song ever is Edith Piaf's Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien.
