Foundation of Roses
I used to come ev’ry day
And lay a rose at your door.
When my roses were receiv’d
I came to lay sev’ral more.
But now all of those roses
Are just measures of the past,
While what the present brings now
Is one more rose to be cast.
And right there at your doorstep,
With a wink and with a smile,
With a gaze into your eyes,
With these roses in a pile,
A foundation has been set
To build a future that knows,
Tho’ it may not be requir’d,
Still I want to lay a rose.
I used to come ev’ry day
And lay a rose at your door.
When my roses were receiv’d
I came to lay sev’ral more.
But now all of those roses
Are just measures of the past,
While what the present brings now
Is one more rose to be cast.
And right there at your doorstep,
With a wink and with a smile,
With a gaze into your eyes,
With these roses in a pile,
A foundation has been set
To build a future that knows,
Tho’ it may not be requir’d,
Still I want to lay a rose.
