Unholy Alliance, a new song you may like

Hi - I'm still writing and recording and playing.

This past week I wrote a song that is strangely titled "Unholy Alliance" and was musically inspired by the master's "Joan of Arc", so I realized this morning that some of you may enjoy it. The female voice is Lyn Lewis, an Internet friend of mine from Texas.

I hope all is well. On my end I'm very much looking forward to next year's Event and finally reconnecting in person with my forum friends.

Best wishes,

Private John K.

Unholy Alliance
by John Kloberdanz
Performed by John Kloberdanz and Lyn Lewis (aka "LML")

He: It was vodka and a prescription
That took you from our home
I wish I'd left work early
And not left you all alone
Most nights I listened to you crying
Instead of getting restful sleep
An unholy alliance of pain and sadness
Washed down with a tall glass of grief

She: There’s no reason to blame yourself
There’s no reason for you to fear
Even though I left my body
My soul is resting near
We’re all living in this one world
But our bodies are ours to feel
I took the future into my own hands
And now I can start to heal

Both: You and I were together for so long
But we won’t be together in death
He: You left me too soon
She: No, it was time for my last breath

He: When did you lose your innocence
Why did you make this choice
Wasn't there some way you could reach out
I swear I listened for your voice
I would do anything to go back
And turn back the hands of time
I would love you more, I would love you true
I would love you so you would still be mine

She: You couldn’t change the moment
That the vodka and pills set me free
The high grass will wither like I had
Just like it reaches for thee
I want you to live on and embrace your life
And remember that I was too weak
The pain was too great for me to stay
No matter what words you would speak

Both: You and I were together for so long
But we won’t be together in death
He: You left me too soon
She: No, it was time for my last breath

Epilogue: When did she lose her innocence
When was she wrapped in shame
How did her heart get so broken
That all she could see was pain
In last moments she thought of old days
Then she left us in comfort and peace
Even though it was through an unholy alliance
Of pain and sadness and grief

Hi John ~

I like this. It's odd to hear a song that seems to do a pretty good job of somehow 'justifying' suicide. Not being together in death, though, concerns me... are you going on the basis that according to some Christians, suicides ensure your presence in whatever/wherever hell might be? I like how your voice sounds very earthbound and how hers sounds very ethereal... with what sounds like the wind blowing through it.

I don't download anything, but I enjoyed listening to it.

[I'm adjusting to FB, by the way ;-) . Looking forward to seeing you in Madison.]

Hi Lizzy,

I knew I was taking a huge risk in the approach to this song, in that she is "starting to heal" through her action, and it might make it sound like I believe that suicide is ok. I do not believe it is, however this isn't a morality piece. I tried to approach the woman's part from her perspective, and while we would like to think that in final moments (and afterwards if one believes in consciousness afterwards) there would be regret, we really don't know. Perhaps she got what she wanted and she really was starting to heal.

I also purposefully didn't tell the story as to what drove her to suicide, and any other why's or when's. It wasn't important and I felt it would distract from the point of the story.

As far as the effects or lack thereof, yes, my intention was to make her sound elsewhere and for my voice to sound immediate.

Thank you very much for listening!

You accomplished the sound effects as you intended, John. I found your song very interesting in that it really does present suicide unapologetically and from her perspective. I don't know if that's rare, but it felt rare.
