Are you the one I’ve praised with simple rhymes

through ugly relationships and doomed affairs?


Are you the one who can sense my locus of pain

behind this impassive mask that defends my heart?

Are you the I’ve been looking for to finally explain

the nature of my illness, the wellspring of my art?


I know you little; your name speaks of better days

however, and trips like promise itself off the tongue.

Are you the one I’ve been looking for in this haze,

smoke and embers from a time when I was young?
