Saturday ~ September 21, 2002 ~ early morning, just past 5:00 AM

Good Morning, Leonard.
Beginning my day with wishing you Happy Birthday on your day.
May it be beautiful, warm, and loving ~ and be spent with those dearest to your heart. May the years bring you "all good things" with many decades more of celebration. May you live in radiant health and well-being, surrounded by those you love. May many beloveds reach out to touch you. May the world hear and listen to your heart. May good will come your way. May you receive all you want and need most. May 100 years greet you on your path. May your life and your heart forever be filled with G~d and love overflowing.
Thank you for all you have been, for me and to me in my life, my friend.
Happy Birthday, Leonard Cohen.
Happy Birthday, Leonard.
Happy Birthday

~
Love,
Elizabeth

By coincidence, I've just logged on to start a "string" of birthday greetings to Leonard. Elizabeth, you beat me to it! Late last night I posted a message to Kelley, asking her to pass it on to Leonard: birthday greetings on behalf of my family. Leonard is 16 years older than me, and 16 years younger than my father. It was always thus.
Elizabeth's post is both eloquent and passionate: there is nothing I can add, except to urge all Forum members to post their own birthday greetings on this string. Jarkko, maybe you can shift the lot to Leonard!
Happy Birthday, Mr. Cohen!!
Love,
Andrew McGeever.

The birthday card designed by Kadir Ercan was yesterday
(on September 21) on the front page of The Leonard Cohen
Files, on behalf of all chatroom etc. activists. Now it has to be
removed but I'm keeping it here.
Leonard asked me to forward this to all of you who greeted
him on his 68th birthday:
"Please thank Kadir Ercan and the Activists
for their birthday wishes and their kind support.
Love
Old Leo"

Leonard
On your birthday I drove 542 miles of motorway.
I had my son with me for the outward trip. He is a student. He slept for 238 miles of it.
We went to a football match. My team won.
I left my son at the university and commenced the lonesome return journey.
I had my tapes with me. It wasn't lonesome after all.
I sang with you. Other drivers on that motorway saw me mouthing the words to 'So long Marianne' as I sped past them. How I flew!
When 'Queen Victoria' arrived I was stuck in traffic...the tempo had slowed and an old lady looked at me from the next car. I sang to her.
I thought of singing 'Winter Lady' to another traveller who shared my road but I remained faithful.
The return journey was enjoyable and I thank you for sending me your songs. They are always with me.
That is what I did on your birthday.
Happy Birthday Leonard(for yesterday) and may your travels always be accompanied.
Pete
