My Second "Moderator" Complaint

Look: I gotta make this brief. I don't have time for this crap.

Now: Moderators.. [or in poetry 4um parlance: moderaturzz]: WHAT THE???????????????????

Where is snailquo's "Moderaturz must have Applez in there trowzerz" thread?????-- or, no: my RESPONSE.. my tidily quoted and composed RESPONSE to said post???

Okay, it's ONE THING to censor [as in REMOVE] fishie/snailie thingies [though I'm against that too, truth be told].. but ME??? -- MOI???

YOU'VE REMOVED MY VERBIAGE???.. MY MOI FISH CRIT VERBIAGE???

MOI??????????????????

THIS IS AN
OUTRAGE!!!!!!!!!!

I thought moderators were supposed to exercise moderation. In any event, I am here in the cause of Good. I am trying to "integrate" fish's multiple personas into one, more or less, acceptable overall "Fish." I've even contacted Joanne Woodward, for cripe's sake --

AND YOU WOULD ALL WORK AGAINST ME IN THIS???????????????

.. (my god)..

[I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

this place stinks]

Since I cannot claim to "know" you in any sense of the word, I hope this is merely your attempt at poetry or prose, and not a genuine complaint! If the latter, nobody is forcing you to stay here. At least, I hope not! It is difficult to imagine that you are chained to a desk somewhere, being forced to log in to the Leonard Cohen forum (note the name of the forum, it is called that for a reason), and to write posts in your strangley small font choice, on topics, as far as I can tell, of little or (more often) no relation to Leonard Cohen.

Ah, but since I am a mere guest in this thread, since it usually bears no relation to the reason why I am a member of this forum (other than its sometimes consisting of creative writing and the discussion thereof, which is an art engaged in by Mr. Cohen, but this is scarcely a connection to the Great Man), perhaps my concern over your tone is misplaced. If so, I apologise for my intrusion into your world, of which I admit to knowing very little.

Sincerely,
A friend (?)

.. don't worry about it.. my sense of humor would be lost on a newcomer,* I'm afraid. [more tragically it's lost on non-newcomers, as well]
[at least sometimes it is]

Anyway, the moderaturz have now been notified of my dissatisfaction.. and I am SURE they are now shaking in their little moderational boots, as we speak.. so.. there is at least SOME satisfaction in that.

Okay, so.. nice to meet you, Lisa LCfan! [just don't sweat it too much in this back room here.. honestly, it's not worth it!!]

v.

* as discussed later, I meant a newcomer to this section. [seemingly]
edit: the above "footnote."

Hi Violet

It's worth paying attention to Lisa's perspective. This is an open forum, it is also the foremost online community for Leonard Cohen fans. Parts of it may feel like a back room (or someone's private back yard) but they are all visible to "old timers" and "newcomers" alike. (As an aside: in any other online community it would be utterly ridiculous to call someone who's been around for almost two years and contributed more than 500 posts a "newcomer", but here different parameters seem to apply).

So while we're having fun it is not a bad idea to stop and think: what does all this look like to an outsider? To someone who has not yet joined the community? Are we creating a friendly, inviting place or a hostile playground reserved for the ultra-jaded? (It was just last month that clairr tried to join in and was immediately ripped to shreds: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=25276, remember?)

My personal opinion is that we all share the responsibility to make this community a somewhat hospitable and inviting place. We also have the right to have some fun and finding the balance between the two will always be a bit of a challenge. To date, I haven't seen the moderators step in other than in the most outrageous cases, if we all do our part as responsible members of the community future moderator intervention might not be necessary.

Hi LCFan,

I think you'll find what violet meant when she said 'this place stinks' ...is that something smells very fishy round here! And with all the multiple personalities that keep popping up she does have a point! Things in the backroom of the forum are not always as they seem, and violet's unique sense of humour can sometimes be misread...

And she does like to wind the moderators up, all be it with tongue in cheek!...But she would never mean to offend!

As i've said before, the backroom of the forum is a bit like descending into the twighlight zone...Nothing is as it seems...You never know what is real and what isn't...A bit like life realy...It can be fun or drive you mad!

Take care
Karren B

.. Hi Karren.. I guess I'm getting my "bad girl" comeuppance today.

B.N.. I only said "newcomer" given the nature of her comment. Perhaps I misread it.. but it seemed she was new at least to this section [maybe].. [so I thought, at any rate]..

But you know, some of the silliness is really just that. You and Lisa should realize that as well. I'm always owning my failings here, believe me (!).. but.. silliness is sometimes just fun, and so it's to strike a balance, maybe.

B.N.. I can't believe you linked to my last snafu (!) I am really being "studied" now as something of a "I don't know what".. but..

Okay, well..

I shall try to do better, then.. and I honestly mean no ill will to anyone here (!)

My best wishes to you both -- but please, lighten up!! (my god!).. (my best to you too, Karren)..

v.

.. [as for you, fish.. you shall be punished when the time seems right, and in the fashion I deem appropriate.. as long as no innocents are around, I mean.. in which case, I shall bide my time] [fish beware]

Now I feel bad for using my overly-detailed memory to pick on your past transgressions... I honestly did not mean to point to the clairr incident as an example of "people behaving badly", but rather as an example of how good, sensitive people can become jaded and unintentionally stomp over others.

Okay, v... at last, I have the opportunity to make a sound suggestion to something you've written:

"I've even contacted Joanne Woodward, for cripe's sake -- "

ought to have been:

"I've even contacted Joanne Woodward, for carp's sake -- "

Obviously, an oversight...

I got the "stinks" reference-joke, though; but then I'm a Pisces.

Anyway, Lisa ~ I didn't mean to diminish what you've said, with my own response to violet. I seem to have missed the offending posting that this is all about, and so I'm not sure if you were at all involved, at any point, or just reading here and commenting.

Regarding all of violet's different size fonts, those are all her asides... and asides within asides within asides... ad infinitum.

Actually, I'd like to think violet might be involved with play writing where asides to the audience are standard fare. What frustrates me most are her long postings. I know I'm going to laugh, whether they're short or long, but most often I just don't have time for the long. I'm glad to see that she's agreed to do better on areas where she might hurt people's feelings. I know that the relatively small group of regulars in this section all understand where the other is coming from, so that's not a concern between them [or at least rarely, if so... and always work-out-able]. Someone coming to the section could see it all quite differently, though, and possibly get offended. I've cringed a few times in reading, too.

OK. Gotta go.

~ Lizzy

Violet is obviously a democrat, and is simply requesting the same allowance for multiple-personality trollers, as for regular, run-of-the-mill 1-persona posters – i.e.freedom to post in this section of the forum where creative license is granted.

And by the way, it wasn't all smooth sailing for Violet when she first joined the forum, but I recall that she made some delicious sauce with the tomatoes that were lobbed – why, she even (singlehandedly) changed Georges and Casey into kinder, gentler posters (well, Casey anyway)...

.. [oh, hi, I.F.. I didn't see your post 'til I wrote the following]..

.. Lizzy.. the "offending" posting, so called, is the very first post on this thread. Personally, I can't read it and take it seriously, so I'm the last one to know what is offensive here (!)

.. oh, carp!.. now, look what you made me do?..

I thought I had everything all straightened out, and here I'm defending my own miserable post!

Ah.. geez..

But you know.. if posters everywhere could just understand this one simple fact:

.. please take notice that with EVERY mishap in these parts.. and, in so speaking, in all matters of, uh, "untowardness," as it were.. [or, most, at least].. one usually finds........ THAT'S RIGHT: a fish. [or a close fish relative]

[or whatever those things are called],

That thing called "language" that you play with, that you love so much, that you're so good at, was once used to communicate facts and ideas. Can you believe it?
