trying to locate a recipe for a lost taste
Since you’ve left
I’ve taken up smoking
and drinking coffee
black.
I don’t miss you that often,
it’s just there’s a taste I can’t seem to find.
Last night I tried two beers with
three American cigarettes and a tic tac.
For a second
I thought that I could taste your lip gloss
but then
I inhaled deeply
and you were lost again.
(there's an almost L.C. line here that I shall leave as it is as an homage. To be honest it was an accident - to much Leonard Cohen floating around the back of my head I guess. )

That makes SO MUCH SENSE to me.
Although I don't think that's what I'm doing with black coffee and cigarettes. Maybe I just haven't met anyone who tastes as potent as your friend.
Thanks for bein' awesome!

haha - do I say you're welcome or thanks? thank you
somebody who read this at a poetry forum I occasionally post to, said that she remembered a fellas kisses as tasting like wet harmonica and Raleigh cigs … I loved that! I wonder what a wet harmonica taste like...

If I could come up with a better flavor for "wet harmonica", I would, but I can't.
As a side note, I have been, at various times in the past, the sort of girl whom everyone assumed to be a lesbian. (It made me feel safe.) As such, I have had the rare experience of being able to turn an objective eye to the following: On several occasions, inebriated and brash young ladies, eager to prove their lack of adherence to the laws of society or somesuch, attempted to jam their tongues uninvited down my throat. I thus came to the conclusion that while men taste different, all women taste like slightly underripe honeydew melon. A nice enough flavor, but too weak for my taste.
I had forgotten all of this, but ultimately it gives some use to the black coffee and cigarettes. I will leave some sort of flavor wherever I go, although I supposed slightly used black coffee is not many people's favorite.

Hi nonnymonster ~

Surely, you'll get a response to your posting from at least one person, if not more, who can verify or disagree with your taste assessment

.
And I like your poem a lot, too, Cate... I've just been following the comments of others rather than making my own. It's funny how many ways missing someone can manifest.

Violet takes Nonnymonster in her arms and plants a real deep wet one on her, concluding:
milk chocolate, with a bit of hazelnut, maybe
before leaving the post.

love the poem cate...It is hard to recreate a taste if you lose the recipe. Sometimes you need to find a new recipe!
Try a smokey/peaty single malt with a hint of dark chocolate!

a practically perfect recipe Karren xx
on a slightly separate note I had fantastic drink the other night - an espresso Martini. It was a shot of espresso with Kahlua and I think the base was vodka, it was garnished with espresso beans and a wonderful stick of dark chocolate. Yummm ...

(After several minutes of stunned silence, blushes.)
Why, Violet! You taste exactly like a chocolate-covered harmonica!
(Resumes buttoning up pants as high as they will possibly go.)

.. okay.. this post has been bothering me for quite some time, and yet I couldn't quite diagnose why. I think it has to do with how you button up your pants, which makes me suspect you are:
a. a man
b. acquainted with Levi's when they used to have buttons instead of zippers, in which case you are still a man;
c. not sure when you're done buttoning your pants, which could mean practically anything, including insomnia.
That you have a taste reference for a chocolate covered harmonica has also been annoying me, only because I thought they banned those in the nineties.
Oh, and by the way, it was just a kiss (on the smacker, as it happens). My god, I had no designs on any other part of the anatomy, so don't flatter yourself. Anyway, if you are wearing old Levi's, those buttons are a real pain in the ass, so surely I could find someone else who prefers zippers. I mean, at the very least. Seems like a reasonable requirement, actually.
Alright well
[Violet sticks out her tongue, and leaves the post, slamming the door behind her]
So there.
[she mutters to herself]
Humph!

.. actually, instead of "insomnia," I actually meant "harmonica".. "including harmonica," in other words.
Wait, so that's:
c. not sure when you're done buttoning your pants, which could mean practically anything, including harmonica.
.. (I knew this all fit together somehow.. just
knew it did)..
