Were We Leaves
Were we leaves,
I would wait with you
among wet branches,
fall by you
on soft lawns,
laugh alongside you
in laconic breezes
and cry for you
beside cold puddles.
Were we leaves,
I would chase you
on skittering winds,
tumble skyward with you
above Texas towns,
lay with you
in the coldest canyons
and touch you
along your
brittlest edges.

Re: Were we Leaves .... Poem for an Injured Friend
Go Down, Moses, so sorry to hear about your dear friend…
Writing through emotions helps us process them — especially
when we are disquieted within, thinking of the adversities
facing a loved one. Thank you for sharing your thoughts
in the form of your beautiful poem.
Saddened, I feel the
sparseness of prose
as life folds in
all around.
Yet, little leaf
you continue to lighten my life
like an incandescent rose –
unfolding, I see the rough edges,
but oh, how I feel
your resplendent glow!
…..
Look how the two leaves
dance, not alone but together,
attached like glue, to the cast
of each other’s shadow,
fully aware of friendship's beauty
and the way in which it
aggrandizes the heart.

I hope you don't mind me offering these few words…Were We Leaves

Such a poignant, meaningful poem you've written for your very dear, longtime friend, Go Down, Moses.
I was both touched and moved in reading it. I'm hoping you've given it to her.
Your using leaves worked so beautifully to express such a variety of feelings and circumstances.
If she ever needed your friendship, the time is now.
The kind of love you express in your poem is real.
Carm, such beautiful gestures you've made to Go Down, Moses with your words
and your photo/graphic of "Were we Leaves."
Both your poem, Go Down, Moses, and your gestures, carm, are humbling.

Thanks, guys ... I appreciate the kind words.
Of course, I can't leave anything alone so I've been reworking this one.
