Las Vegas, Friday December 10 dinner "casual get together"

I am starting a separate thread for a 'casual' Friday dinner on December 10 at Caesars Palace Cafe Lago Buffet.
The original meet--up thread is a now bit cumbersome.
Granny Poe is in charge of organized events and is doing a great job.

When I read that there will be no organized dinner on Friday night, I considered what I would do for my own dinner that day.
Then I thought about a time that would work for me and posted it.
...there is no group meet-up plan for Friday dinner on December 10.

Anyone that is interested in joining me, I've decided to go to the Caesars Buffet on Friday around 5:30 pm.
I will have had a full day recovering from "the night before" and a day of activities.
I am staying at Caesars. So I would like to keep it simple for dinner and then "mosey on over" to the concert.

Arlene,
I think Caesar's buffet for the nights of the concerts is a good idea. This way, we will already be at the venue site and this way it will be so much easier to 'mosey' on over to the concert after eating and meeting.
So this is a 'casual' dinner requiring no commitment. If you would like to join Mary (aka Fred the monkey's mum), George and me, you know we will be there. I also had a PM from some dear new friends I met at the Krakow Event who will be there.

What I will do, is try to go to the Buffet dining room just before 5:30 pm, and ask the Hostess about an 'area'.
I will show her my nametag/lanyard and tell her others wearing this type of nametag may show up.
If they would be so kind to tell them, that other LC fans are sitting "yonder", that may work.
I am sure we will find each other anyway, getting up and down going to the buffet stations. :D

Hi Arlene,
My partner, Monika and I will try to make it - though 5:30 is REALLY early for us to schedule dinner - but we are attending the concert and do need to eat something - so... I'll just skip lunch! Looking forward... (couldn't get tickets for 11th - but hope to see everyone at before and after events).

I thought there were some tickets available for the 11th, jazz. Have you been keeping up with that Tickets thread?

And THAT is Caesar's Palace? It looks like a small town built around a river. I'm not even seeing the Colosseum on the map!

Colosseum is to the north, above the Forum casino....all within the environs of Caesars Palace. One does not need to go outside to access the entrance.

Hey Judy, 5:30 pm is just my dinner time on concert night. :D This is not a scheduled organized dinner. So if it happens that you are interested in the Buffet there, just show up whenever you want.

Funny enough I ate at the Lago Buffet last Friday at 5:00pm-I had a conference at Caesars. Anyway, the line was pretty long and the place full because the conferences tend to finish around that time and the general tourist traffic eats the same time.

I say this to warn you that it might not be possible to 'reserve you an area' because when it is that busy they just can't spare the space and groups of 12 or more should be paying the gratuity on the bill (12-18%). Just beware that the staff might not allow an informal group gathering without the gratuity or due to the lack of space.

Thank you for the alert tigerm. Much appreciated.

I will go there as planned. It works best for me.

If I see a few familiar faces in line, we can join up.

Thanks again,

Hi Lizzie!
When I've checked for tickets - through the Am. Exp. booking service - there are no tickets available at any price level on the 11th. I know there are a couple of people on the forum who have extra tickets - but once we got the tickets on the 10th - and booked all our accoms. we just can't afford them (alas) - we will be there to join in the after festivities and I'm really looking forward to our face-to-face (finally!) See you in a week and a half - we arrive on the 9th and are staying at Luxor.

I like the idea of the "casual" get together Arlene. Mark and I didn't want to commit to an organized dinner on the Friday as it's our first time in LV and who knows what we'll be getting up to, so this sounds ideal!

DEFINITELY meeting for post -concert drinks though - I'n stocking up on Kleenex!

The blue raincoat is out of the closet, and I have one of the lovely black and blue Unified Hearts t-shirts to match - am getting very excited now!

Have you checked the direct link through Ticketmaster? I just checked and there were $49.50 seats seats available. I don't think there are any bad seats at the Colosseum as the acoustics are perfect.

The thing with buffets is it is hard to predict when they are busy or not. Weekends around 5-7pm tend to be very busy because it is close to shows, but equally you could just walk straight in.

You have to remember that the servers are on minimum wage and depend on tips. When they work a large group, they could be running for that group for 1-2 hours-that is why they ask for the gratuity on the bill (for a buffet that is a lot of plates to clear and drinks to fill).
The servers also work a particular area of the restaurant, so they like to condense the customers in that servers area, they definitely don't like to leave empty spaces for a large group-that may or may not fill those spaces. Otherwise your poor server is not getting tips on those empty spaces AND they are having to cover a larger area for fewer people.

Ultimately, it all depends on how busy they are on how much they will do, but you can appreciate if they are at near full capacity, they don't want empty tables sitting there. I would probably try and organize yourself informally to meet at the buffet for 5:30pm and ask to be seated together.
