'Shallow roots,'

Shallow roots,

shallow
keep them close
to the surface
where the rain is plentiful
where you can feel the
vibrations from her feet
as she walks by.

Resist the temptation
to go deeper.
Don't curl around rocks
or other roots.
Stay clear of anything that
will entangle you
so that you will exit with grace
when her soft hand
wraps around your stem and pulls
you from the soil.

(edit note - capitalized the s in Stay)

.. I'm really enjoying reading this, Cate..
.. it has this feeling as if it were about something else, but it doesn't settle into a fixed metaphor, which I really appreciate..
.. all my senses feel woken up somehow.. as if I were the plant's roots, sensing the woman treading just over me..
.. it's so simple, in the best sense.. so seemingly effortlessly do you appear to arrive at this..
.. and you have this sensual way with words that's truly something that is yours, Cate..
v. x

.. oh, I'm wondering if you capitalize the 's' starting the sentence 'stay clear of anything that,' as it trips me up a bit, but wouldn't, I think, if it started as a new sentence..

.. I also like the poem as a "directive," of sorts..

Thank you cool baby Kwills!

Thank you for saying that Violet, that you felt part of the poem is a great compliment, thank you for your other kind words as well.
I've fixed the s - thank you, yes that should be a new sentence.

I have been re-reading this little gem for a few days wondering what to say; if anything.
I came to a conclusion...I love it!

Mat.

Hi Mat - thank you very much.

I hope you're doing well. I miss reading your thoughts in the Book of Mercy thread - I wish Leonard would write a sequel so that you guys could keep going.

I love your reasoning; but I'm not too sure Leonard would agree....
but;
Yes. I think he should. ;-)

Cate, this is very beautiful.

...a path worth exploring; retaining a lightness of spirit that allows one to absorb pleasure/joy/sustenance – without possessing or stifling it.

Thank you Imaginary - yes

loving, feeling, connecting but maintaining that lightness of spirit as you've said.
