Today it was rainy, windy, cloudy, and you can hardly see high mountains we're surrounded with....

But it's getting better now ....

and now, waiting time is less than two hours ...

I've loved Joey's pictures of Leonard from behind as he "takes the stage" - and now we have a little video - :D

Back on earth, just a few words to say that again tonight Sharon Robinson wasn't on stage. Easy to guess, once arrived, when we saw only two microphones on the left side of the stage. I hope she'll be recovering as quick as possible.

Concerning the subtitles, obviously a lot of people have appreciated the opportunity to get an idea of what L.C. is singing about, so let's say it's a strange but usefull (for french people) innovation.

I did take my camera with me, but, scatterbrain ! .... i just forgot to put the memory card back in, and it 's stayed in my computer. So, no pictures from me.

the show ? Terrific, overwhelming ! ... as usual ! (how is this possible ?) Mister Cohen, smiling, dancing, appears to be in perfect shape, so happy to be here on stage, just as he was two years ago. And always those marvellous numbers that take you high, move you deep, and give goosebumps : Who by fire, the Partisan, Anthem ...

The set list, which seems to be exactly the same as in Caen :

1st set :
Dance me to the end of love
The Future
Aint' no cure for love
Bird on the wire
Everybody knows
Who by fire
The Darkness
Born in Chains
Chelsea Hotel #2
Waiting for the miracle
Anthem

2nd set :
Tower of song
Suzanne
Sisters of Mercy
The Gypsy's wife
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye
Feels so good
The Partisan
Hallelujah
I'm your Man
Take this waltz

Encores :
So long Marianne
First we take Manhattan
Famous blue raincoat
If it be your will
Closing time
I tried to leave you
Heart with no companion

Thanks Fil... It must have been a wonderful evening! Somehow the stage seems so strange minus one. It's minus Sharon, of course, but it would be strange minus any of the UHTC. Looking forward to seeing her well again and back on stage. Joey's phrase though that the flu is circulating through the UHTC, is not good. Wish everyone well....keep downing the vitamins...drink tea, and REST!

Hope to see you perhaps in LV?

Diana

Yes I'd say the same, but they ended with Lover Lover Lover in Caen I believe.

Yes, sadly no Sharon again...hope to see her smiling face in Strasbourg tomorrow!

Everyone seemed it good spirits for sure and put on a wonderful show. This doesn't get tiring!

We went to the box office around 5:30 and picked up 1st row tix! But they turned out to be 'added' seats and way to the left of the stage in front of the speaker stack, with an awkward sideways view of the stage. The speakers also blocked 80% of the video screen so entertaining ourselves with the French lyrics was not even an option.

I tried to go to the box office and suggest that the tickets weren't worth what they had charged. We had planned to buy cheapies but could not resist the allure of front row Webb Sisters side. The security wouldn't let me out but I did encounter the woman who had sold me the tix. I explained the situation and she was understanding, yet said she could do nothing to help.

I do love a challenge. I found the office of the Directeur and knocked on the window and a helpful woman came out to assist me. I explained the situation, and she located the Directeur. The Directeur nodded and seemed genuinely distressed on my behalf but could do nothing. After a very challenging inter-language discussion, she walked to a desk and came back with new tickets...10 seats closer to center. A much better vantage point and well worth the € and the hassle.

I love the French lyrics...not an easy job translating I am sure. I was at a Elvis Costello/Bob Dylan show which was signed. They managed Elvis OK it seemed, but they gave up during His Royal Bobness :-)

Cheers,
Ken(adian) - 2 down and 4 to go...

Well, Ken. I am happy to see you have managed to revive and implement your dream of Many-Concerts-in-a-Row-in-France.

Thank you for your great report, as always. However, your reports are confusing this dumb Canuck. Your avatar is identical to the flipped avatar of RegularCliche. Mm... is that legal on this forum? Can't you find your own avatar? :D

You bet ! Definitetly a long-time running hobby.

I shall try to work on it again. Up to now, call me Penelope, I mostly do and then undo, tearing my hair out, never satisfied ....

A maybe-still-for-many-years work in progress : https://sites.google.com/site/traduireleonardcohen/

All the best,

She's my mirror twin...
