Wow…A very graphic portrait of survival…That’s life…It’s amazing how much we can take and still survive…and despite everything the last two words say it all
‘I’m Alive’ …bit cliché I know but ‘While there’s life there’s hope’ or maybe you could look at that another way and say ‘While there’s hope there’s life!’

Loved it Alsiony…Very thought provoking, gives me a sense of rebirth...Would like to know more about your thought process on this one!

Hey Karren

Sometimes things happen that can leave a person feeling utterly destroyed. Then the tiniest, weakest flicker of survival - they may suddenly recognise within themselves, and they may only seem to realise it just when they need to, just in time... and it can dumbfound the person themselves - just how that tiny flame managed to survive at all.
Some people don't manage to get that far, and that is one of the worst tragedies of all.

Most of us are much stronger than we would normally think - seeing and recognising that flame (that is our spirit, and our spirit to survive) is the most important first step, even if the road ahead may prove to be difficult beyond words. Nothing can happen, and nothing (or no-one) else can really help until your inner spirit tries to stand first, and I think this is often, perhaps always, a mental and physical thing.

I wanted to try and write it in a short sharp kind of way, with the last part having a slightly less hitting and more... erm, more quiet feel to it I guess. When I read it aloud - the last part is a whisper. Like a devastatingly violent hurricane that leaves a deathly silence and lonely desolation in it's wake. Well - that's the kind of thing that I was aiming for atleast.

I suppose I would leave it up to the reader to decide what it specifically says to them, as in what kind of scenario it may be talking about. It may appear vastly different - to different people. There is no right or wrong answer here of course!

Thanks

Hi A

I agree we’re all a lot stronger than we think, but you do need that inner strength to survive…unfortunately not everyone finds it. And as you say that’s a tragedy!

You refer to the inner spirit as a tiny flame, a spark, I like that, as you only need a tiny spark to light a fire…..

Another great poem Alsiony…

Precisely!

It's hard to find a spark after violent a storm - but what you have just said is exactly what I meant in using that kind of imagery.
