18 Seconds (with apologies to Alsiony)
The lights are red
left foot on clutch
right on brake
the lights stay red
I look to my right
her eyes smile
at me
and everything I have
smiles back
and we connect
through glass
and in my head
and the lights stay red
for a few seconds more
my day has changed
already
I offer an extra smile
as the lights change
and, on amber, she shows me a finger
and on green she's gone
tyres smoking
I miss the pedals
and stall
just like before.
