Leonard Cohen receives the PORIN Award (Croatia)

Each country has its own version of Grammy, so has Croatia. The Porin Award is named after the first Croatian opera "Porin", and is given in similar categories as Grammy, Juno etc. by the Croatian Institute of Music Industry, founded by Croatian Phonographic Association, Croatian Musicians Union, Croatian Radiotelevision and Croatian Composers' Society. The statue of the award is modelled after the main character of the opera (and his horses, I believe).

The Porin 2010 Awards ceremony was this last Saturday, May 15, and Leonard Cohen is the winner in category no. 49 (of 50), "best foreign video programme", for his DVD "Live in London".

Ok so I didn't have my contacts in and totally misread the title. Didn't see the "i" in Porin.
Blew my mind.

I believe that statue shows the old Slavic duke Porin on the horse, the main character of the first Croatian opera "Porin". The statue is done by Ivica Propadalo, he's art designer, little in naive, folk style.

Well, this is obviously the thread to be misread.
What I thought I initially saw with "Croatian Phonographic Association" was ~ you got it
! And I don't wear glasses for close up. It seems some of our subconscious'es may be working overtime on Leonard's behalf

Mary (mollydog) brought this award to my attention a few days ago, mainly because of the title of the award
I initially thought it was porn too. I thought well, he is winning every other award so why not this one!!

Leonard Cohen sinoć primio nagradu Porin!
13. Listopad 2010
Leonard Cohen je uoči sinoćnjeg koncerta u Ljubljani ugostio predstavnike Menarta, a direktor Branko Komljenović uručio mu je u backstageu diskografsku nagradu Porin. Leonard Cohen osvojio je nagradu Porin u kategoriji 49, za najbolji inozemni video program u 2009. godini, odnosno DVD 'Live in London'. Iznimno raspoloženi Leonard Cohen, producent Ed Sanders, ali i ostali glazbenici iz banda bili su oduševljeni statuom.
„Statua je prelijepa …i teška“ komentirao je slavni glazbenik nagradu Porin koja je izrađena od kristala i teži nekoliko kilograma.
Cohen i njegov izvrstan prateći band posljednji će koncert na ovoj turneji održati u prosincu u Las Vegasu. Nakon toga slijedi kratak odmor pa rad u studiju na novom materijalu. Premda su svi koncerti na turneji slični onome zabilježenome na izdanju 'Live In London', Cohen ipak svaki od njih dodatno začini svojim šarmom i karizmom ali i malom promjenom repertoara.
Od novih, neobjavljenih pjesama na koncertu je sinoć izveo i The Darkness, Born In Chains i Feels So Good. Osim nagrade, Cohena je dirnula i publika u ispunjenoj Areni Stožice. Bez obzira na veličinu Cohen ju je ispunio iznimnom toplinom i pozitivnom energijom, a nakon dva bisa i trosatnog koncerta još jednom skinuo šešir i poklonio se vjernoj publici.
Ukoliko niste imali priliku biti na jednim od koncerata svakako poslušajte i pogledajte njegov live nastup na aktualnim izdanjima 'Live In London' i 'Songs From The Road'.
