Do any of you know if UK VHS videos are compatable with the US system. If not does anyone have any suggestion as to how I can put a video on something that will work in the US. I know I can burn a PC CD but is that it

My understanding is that PAL and NFTC [or whatever the correct 4 letters are] is the real issue. Overall, the VCRs and TVs are set up for the latter over here; in Europe, they're typically set up for PAL. Conversions can be done, but they tend to be costly. It all depends on what your system is, i.e. what the tape that you'd be recording is done in, and what the person here's system is. Most likely, someone here wouldn't have PAL compatibility. If you're talking about something already recorded commercially, I don't know if what I've said applies. I've only dealt with it in reference to Leonard tapes.

Hi Paula I too live in the UK and we often have advertised in our local rag conversions from USA to VHS videos and reasonable prices. I live near 2 American Air Bases so maybe that`s why it`s more common. It appears if you hunt ye will find.

A lot of UK new video players are NTSC (USA) format playback compatable.
I got NTSC tapes of both leonard's Austin City Limits performaces, from the US and they play perfect.

It is not a pre-recorded video it is a home video I am sending to a relative who is not sure himself. Maybe I will just send it and see if it works

If it doesn't work, he can try taking it to a video equipment [repair/purchase] store and see if they'll convert it. With a home video, it should be no problem....no copyright issues. Generally, they have a set price for the initial ones, and then less money for additional copies.
