.... in Rouen in 1431.

In world tour terms, Rouen is only a hop, skip and a jump away from Caen, where Leonard will open the 2010 tour on March 1.

What better reason could there be for bringing Joan of Arc in to the set for the new tour?

Please Leonard, pretty please? I know I am not alone in wanting to hear this song again!

Absolutely. Please bring back Joan of Arc. This song has always been my wish for a perfect setlist. Pretty please.

One of my all time favourites. We'll be at Caen so please include it this time.

It's just a thought, but maybe they won't bring it because some French extreme right political party (ab)uses her image in their vicious hate campaigns against immigrants and Jews...

Of course, I'd love to hear Joan of Arc in France, it would be so unique and touching.

Yeah, Joan of Arc in Lille please!

(I thought the flames followed rather than swallowed Joan?) :) :?:

I've been waiting for someone to say that! I don't know what Leonard's meaning was - but I definitely meant "swallowed". Joan wasn't going anywhere she could be followed in 1431, and she was certainly consumed by the flames ....

I think Inne has a very good point here, unfortunately. As far as I understand, Jeanne D'Arc was hijacked by the National Front and is now a symbol of xenophobic and fascist politics in France. The 1st of May is their big celebration of the figure of Joan of Arc as symbolising French resistance against all "invaders". Sad...

Tonight I happened to listen to the recording of the Paris 1988 concert, and before Joan of Arc LC says : "The next song is about
Joan of Arc. I refuse to abandon Joan of Arc to Monsieur Le Pen [large applause]. I refuse to abandon the word comrade to the communist party. So comrades, here is the song, Jeanne d'Arc".

Gives me hope we still might hear it ...

I am SO impressed with LC's statement, especially as it was in 1988, only four years after Le Pen started his rise in French politics, and the Jeanne D'arc phenomenon was still not very well established. Nothing like what it is now. It goes to show how insightful Leonard is!

Thanks for the quotation! :D
