At three points, I got goosebumps and at one point, tears. Well done, Annie. I listened again and got waves of chills multiple times.

Thanks for the link, Andrea.

Very nice. I saw her perform about five years ago and she put on a great show. She brings a similar sense of grace and humility to her performance as Leonard. She thanked the audience many times and bowed down to her band in a "I'm not worthy" fashion. The audience loved her!

That's very appealing, Marsha. She has an interesting kind of strength.

Great version! She somehow turns it into something akin to Gospel! Wow, the woman can sing!
It's just a pity that she does not know the lyrics by heart and has to keep bending to read the autocue; breaks the flow a bit...

I've always admired her, but IMHO, this song is just not suited to her voice.

Kindest regards,
Mary

I totally agree Mary B . I am a great admirer of Annie Lennox I think she has an amazing voice but this just does not do it for me . The whole arrangement seems a bit forced and contrived and it is always a little off putting to see someone reading the words as they sing. It is as if they do not really believe in what they are singing about so they haven't bothered to learn the words .
Sorry Annie I love your work most of the time but not on this occasion !

I'm with Mary. Annie has a sensational voice but this performance seems like she saw it as a challenge to do the most histrionic version ever. I think Leonard would be bemused.

Annie Lennox is the most successful female recording artist ever to come out of the UK, but she has never fitted the pop star stereotype, often shunning the media spotlight.

Instead, she has used her fame to promote the causes she believes in, such as HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. But is this a trade off that works? Annie Lennox talks to Stephen Sackur.

Broadcast on:BBC News Channel, 4:30am Wednesday 24th March 2010 Duration:30 minutes Available until:4:59am Thursday 24th March 2011 Category:News
