Father
you brought me into this World
some times Life is a
struggle
other times
Life
is
a muddle
but you are my
Best Friend
who gave me milk
from the cradle
and dried my tears
when I
had wet eyes
(cried)
so thank you
Father
This is your Day
Enjoy it!!!

I am a little disappointed that in a forum for Cohen fans no-one has yet commented on my poem. Please hurry up as I don't feel inclined to wait around. It has been posted for several hours now which should be sufficient for even the really stupid ones here to get their thick brains in order and post an analysis. Otherwise I think it is rude and unwelcoming and one thing I can not abide is rudeness.

Hi Harry ~
Welcome to the Forum

! Count me amongst the thick, the daft, the peculiar in the head; however, I've really enjoyed watching others welcome newcomers. Sometimes things don't appear in the time frames we anticipate, however. Several hours isn't long for a weekend day, and not so many have been appearing here yet today to pass judgement.
You sound very frustrated and angry. On the other side of that, Harry, your initial, two responses to the lack of response to your poem are so aggressive and insulting that I feel inclined to observe that you've been here at least twice, and have yet to comment on anyone else's poem[s].
I agree with you that welcoming a newcomer is important. However, we have at least several oldcomers who take on different names from time to time, for various known and unknown reasons. When I saw your poem, I suspected that might be the case.
Is it Father's Day where you live? Or, is this a poem you previously wrote? It's not Father's Day where I live until June. However, I appreciate the sentiments in your poem, as I no longer have my own father to wish a Happy Father's Day to. In the way of a well-intended suggestion, I would remove the "(cried)," since you had already said "tears" and I think the reader will probably presume you meant "(cried)" without your having to say it.
I am certain that your father appreciated your poem. It sounds like you love him very much.
Again, welcome to the Forum

. Where are you from?

Hello and welcome to the forum Harry
Have you deliberately subsituted the word father in your poem just to be contrary? In the UK today is Mothers Day.

Here in my house it's no big deal anyway. My children have the right attitude - a mother should be appreciated every day, not just once a year.

I was also interested in how Harry ascribed and thanked "Father" for actions typically associated with "Mother" but found ways of explaining them to myself, so thought I might ask if/when he responded ~ "you brought me into this World" [generally thought of as the birthing process, yet his father may have been at the birth and assisted] ~ "who gave me milk / from the cradle" [generally mother either breastfeeds or feeds with a bottle] ~ "and dried my tears / when I / had wet eyes / (cried)" [mothers are generally thought to be the ones who dry a child's tears].
However, then I thought his father may have fulfilled the role of mother, in raising him alone, so thanking his father for these "typically-mother" behaviours would be perfectly normal if his father had raised him alone. I send my mother Father's Day cards to honour the memory of my Dad, and to thank her for their raising of me [and to thank her, in his absence, for her own way of 'taking over,' even at this late a date], and to remember between us what a wonderful Dad he was. So, Harry's poem being an adaptation, attributing mother behaviours to father wouldn't surprize me.

Hi Harry
Maybe everyone was enjoying Fathers Day?
Yeah, look sorry for not reading your post until now, but being in a different time zone I was having a nice sleep.
Liz you are truly gracious and charitable!
I also like the way that the mother role has been filled by a father here. Especially as I have seen lots of Dads taking on the mother and father role with their kids, but not acknowledged.

Liz, I suspect that which you suspect so I should probably ignore this.
Harry, Giving the benefit of the doubt however, I shall comment as you have so rudely demanded that we do so. (I am not a member of the welcoming committee.
This verse would make a nice sentiment on a Father's (Mother's) day card. Perhaps you have already made your own.
Have a nice Father's Day. Witty Owl.

Welcome Harry,
I am also new to this forum but didn't make quite the entrance that you seem to have made. I admire the honesty in your writing. I wish that you had not posted what I felt to be a very rude follow-up to your poem. Damn...

then, epurcelly, let me acknowledge that you didnt quite make "the entrance" and welcome you to this forum...
I agree with you and must say (since I'm not that gracious as Lizzy) that I would have appreciated Harrys poem much more without the following speech.
I hope you have a good time epu
cheers arno

Yes, Epurcelly, welcome to the Forum

! You're right that the said follow-up posts did cast a bit of a pale on the original. Unfortunately [or, fortunately, as the case may be

], the total lack of response, to all of our follow-up responses, falls on the side of 'confirmation' of my original [and continuing

] suspicion. A sincere [albeit angry and frustrated] newcomer would certainly feel beholden to reply to our 'demanded' posts

. Yes

? It's been three days vs. his initial, several hours. Ah well.....it's been great seeing all of you here

. Even if the party host fails to show, we can still have our own good time, independent buggers that we are

.

Guess I'm feeling particularly emotive this morning....however, did you notice my lack of repetition

?

Welcome to the board.
Harry - there's not been much to see of you since your 3 posts in a short time - how quickly the embers of aspiring poets desire die and become ashes.

You trumped me, Arno

......I rarely [never?] use these

~ and working them into a sentence in that post was
totally out of the question

You may be right about cardiac arrest. Or, hey, maybe he joined Harry Hippie for a smoke.
