"messalina79' on YouTube (somewhat_nifty) has uploaded some video from a show in Copenhagen in 1985 of "The Cheap Family" a/k/a "Leonard Cohen and the Celebates."

Thanks messalina79/somewhat_nifty!!!

A fun performance of "Memories"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNvDjWdyeJ8

-and-

So Long Marianne
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKEkWAhZDhM

The videos are dark - but - that didn't stop me from enjoying them. :D

Leonard seems to be in a great, happy-go-lucky mood, and chatty, and in fine voice, and there is some terrific contributions from his guitar player on both videos.

Also - DrHGuy has some words about all this at his blog today - 1HeckOfAGuy -

hehe, they are dark - and that's after I did some work on them! I also wonder how many muppets had to die to make Anjani's jumper  Leonard looks like he's enjoying himself though, which is always good to see.

somewhat_nifty (messalina79) has put another video on YouTube from this 1985 Copenhagen. :D :D
A great performance of Leonard's classic that builds to a powerful finale. Brilliant. Live in Copenhagen 1985. A mysterious 'Amjani' is credited at the piano ;)
Bird On The Wire

I love these performances from this show. And - as burningviolin mentions in her comment - we have a bit of "shouty" Leonard in this one.

Thanks SN!

Thank you messalina79.
Slide guitar and Anjani in a Muppet jumper.

It looks like he may have used this song as his closing number. Well - maybe one of the closing numbers.

Thanks somewhat_nifty!

Thank you so much,

I absolutely loved this rather swinging version of the "broken" Hallelujah :D
Would have loved to see the visual but never mind - a wonderful rendition :)

How did I miss this thread! LOL...I love the video! Was positive that was Anjani (in the Muppet dress!) and loved Leonard's comments at the end. The "cheap people" and "Leonard Cohen and the celibates"....priceless! Oh yeah, also love Memories!

Not only do I love LC's songs, but I love his choice of covers. It's not even recognizable as a Bee Gee's song - it is soooooo Leonard :D

Thank you Ruth and Linda.

Ruth thanks for making these audio vids available - I don't know where you find them
and Linda thanks for making us aware of them.

This version of "To Love Somebody" is far superior to the one on Rare Live Songs :D

The musical arrangement of "Take This Longing" is wonderful and different :D

Thanks so much - keep 'em comin' !!

I'm listening to 'To Love Somebody' so much right now - Leonard and the Bee Gees are not an obvious combination to say the least, but he imbues it with such longing and pathos... 'you don't know what it's like' ... *sigh*!
