From Patrick Lonski:
LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Eight years after the release of her
critically acclaimed Atlantic debut, "Dreamland," jazz
singer/songwriter Madeleine Peyroux has teamed with Rounder
Records for her second release.
Drawing comparisons to jazz greats like Billie Holiday, Peyroux
impressed critics her first time out with "Dreamland," which
featured backing from top jazz artists like guitarist Vernon Reid and
pianist Cyrus Chestnut. Peyroux toured with Lilith Fair and morna
singer Cesaria Evora for "Dreamland," which sold 109,000 units in
the U.K., according to SoundScan.
The singer is currently in the studio with Larry Klein, who has
produced albums for noted singer/songwriters Shawn Colvin and
Joni Mitchell. The expected summer release will feature a collection
of Peyroux originals, as well as songs written by
Leonard Cohen and Elliott Smith and others popularized
by Billie Holiday and Bessie Smith.
