THE BUDDHA

I was with a group of pilgrims in an Indian town going to see the Buddha. The whole palace was teeming with people of different races, though most of them were white and it was as if the whole of the Western World were there to see the Buddha. It was very hot and I took off my shirt, put it down, and stood around waiting for what seemed like an eternity in nothing but a pair of shorts. But we never got thirsty or hungry. The whole place was alive and it was buzzing. It was very beautiful. The building was dressed in the most wonderful coloured fineries and silks. A person came over to us and said that the Buddha would see us now but that we had to climb a steep staircase that went up very very high to see him. The ascent was easy. It was like being in a dream where you climb and climb and you reach a high mental state known as being in normal land and of course we were going to be supreme. She had given us rules about how we were to behave and what we should wear. As we went up and up I became further aware that I wasn’t properly dressed and that I would present myself to the Buddha half naked. This concerned me more and more the higher we rose. I became very perplexed and I made my way to the back of the climbing line. In the end I decided I would go back down and get my shirt where I had left it in a corner of the building. I turned off to take a short cut through a narrow stairway. There was a very lovely girl there performing her worship neither ascending or descending the stairs. I waited until she paused in her prayers and then asked her if she could show me the way down. An American man appeared and told her that she shouldn’t have anything to do with opposite sex and went off laughing at his own joke. She asked me to follow her and I did though many of the stairs were steep and I had to jump down with some difficulty. As we descended she became less and less attractive until she completely disappeared. I reached the bottom the stairs to be in the great hall. A huge stage had been set up with a massive cushion on it for someone very important to sit on. Behind the cushion on the stage was a curtain. On the stage there were musicians playing drumbeats preparing us for the moment. The players were masked so we couldn’t see their faces so that we didn’t know who they were and that they were playing for the glory of Buddha and Buddha alone. I tried to heave myself up on the stage but I was too old and not fit enough. I walked along the edge looking until I found a foothold and got myself onto the stage. I went to lift the curtain which I knew would be easy because it was lace material but it wouldn’t move so I had to get down on my belly and squeeze through the gap at the bottom of the curtain and the stage. I managed to get to the other side and stood up and the Buddha was there waiting holding out my shirt for me to wear. Sometimes you climb higher and higher because you’re told that’s where enlightenment is, other times you decide to take your own path back down because enlightenment was waiting there for you all the time.

Go for it, Glyn :D ! He did fine with Leonard's father-figure seeking on "The Captain" thread. Meanwhile, such a great dream, with your own interpretation 8) !

G,

Lizzytysh is wrong about your own interpretation. It is vital that you know what this dream really means.

I am at your service.

W-e-e-e-e-l-l-l, then!?! Quit talking about it, and do it, YdF :D ! By the way, one can never discount the dreamer's own interpretation. Only they are aware of their own, secret life.

Dear g,

I am delighted to be able to help you interpret your secret life. And although the dream is rife with sexual symbols, it is most definetly not about sex. So I will leave that pedestrian interpretation to the amateurs.
It is however a wish fullfillment dream. You ardently desire to attend the New York event and hope desperately that a certain person will be there. Your dream fulfills this desire.

Here are the details on the symbols:

The Buddha = Leonard.

The group of pilgrims ("most of them white")= the Event attendees.

The Indian town = Manhattan.

"It was very hot" = Manhattan in June. (Hot, that is for a Britisher)

"And I took off my shirt" = Either a desire to be emotionally available or you're an exhibitionist. Either way, please tan.

"We never got thirsty or hungry" -- The event is primarily a spiritual experience.

"She had given us rules about how we were to behave and what we should wear" = Lizzytysh.

The stairs = the pedestrian interpretation belonging to amateurs

"The lovely girl performing her worship" = Perla B.

"Neither ascending or descending the stairs" = a reference to Jacob's Ladder...i.e. Perla is an angel, albeit an earthly one so she neither ascends or descends.

"An American man appeared" = Leonard Cohen. Yes, I know he's Canadian but he's also North American.

"Told her she shouldn't have anything to do with opposite sex and went off laughing at his own joke." Vintage Leonard.

"As she descended she became less and less attractive until she completely disappeared."---- Uneasy at the thought of intruding on your hero's territory and thereby incurring his wrath, you "change" the lovely girl into someone you would not be attracted to. But even this does not allay your fears of offending the "American". So you make her disappear altogether.

"The huge stage" with "a massive cushion on it for someone very important to sit on" = the great longing to have Leonard show up and give a concert.

"The masked players" ----This is the most interesting imagery in the dream. They could be the other attendees and you would prefer not having the Leonard Buddha take any notice of them. They are merely the Greek chorus to your starring role. Or, you are trying to hide something. (Word association would be invaluable at this point.)

The rest of the dream (squeezing through the gap, etc) is standard textbook "birth" symbolism. You end by tidying up everything very nicely. The Leonard Buddha validates your being by personally handing you your shirt.

Sounds like a swell time.
