Across the Horizon Over the Suburbs of Sorrow

The sun is descending upon the suburbs of sorrow
Beyond the firmament the gray and serene
So blasé in its troubles
Nurturing from the belly of the swelling clouds
A pink and orange restlessness
Tiptoeing on the edges of its vulnerability
A radiation of beauty proliferating a calming madness
Suffusing its delicate charm
Burning like the frayed end of a cigarette
Tainting the clarity of a notion of peace
In the dreams of some forgotten happiness
The sky has faith in its shelter of prominence

The wind is frolicking among the ghosts
Challenging the solicitation of design
To the trees that deviate from their overbearing nature
Suspending their disbelief of time and space
Their age is showing wisdom
They’ve been here before
It whistles to the climate of change
And receives a response of hesitated resistance
The leaves that dance across the pavement
Counting its steps towards freedom
Whispering its accusations of murder
Fallen graceless without pardon
A cascade of longing for companions in misery

Spread across the vast blue
Smeared by a campaign of contempt
The sky is on the verge of tears
Contaminated by woe and distress
But beauty is in its heart
And its love is worn on the sleeve of solitude
Nearly bursting with the need for intimacy
And tenderly hiding behind its veil of doubt
The resonating static of a million murmurs
Confirms nothing but confusion
Darkness is looming

I wonder where you are tonight
And how happy this life has made you
I felt your wandering spirit
Slip through my forceful fingers
Made fragile by the weight of your virtue
Cherishing every moment in divine brevity
I wonder if you even miss me
The gentle association between euphoria
And pain
I’m trying to survive
You must find joy in fanning your flames
A distraction from your insecurities
Burning and giving warmth indiscriminately
Like the way the sky does on this cool autumn eve
I think about you often
And the smile that the world gives you
Mistrust can take it away but you won’t let it
Through the horrors of the gray
Your pink and orange are manifest
And your blue is crystal clear

In a short time the stars will take audience with loneliness
And the crescent moon will dictate their affairs
If you think of me in some passing moment
Of the sweetness of your twilight
I feed my hope with your name
I hear it in the wind
I shelter my prospect with your smile
I see it in the sky
I clothe my longing with your affection
I feel it in my heart
Hours and days that journey across an instant
Night belongs to eternity
Light is obscured beyond the boundaries of evidence
I miss you more than happiness
There is still some yellow left on the horizon
