Where Bridges Never Burn

Where Bridges Never Burn

Many friends have come and gone, lovers too

have left my company over days and years.

I did what I could for them, but never got through

the other side of self absorbed misery and tears.

Night after night I dreamed of a life without pain,

and a land where the heart never yearns.

And I see that place of magic where she has lain,

I search for a place where bridges never burn.

But its true I made my choices, every one

paid for in layers of the heart I didn’t have to give.

Throwing anyone available into hell in the name of fun

so reckless and wicked it was impossible to forgive.

And I walked into that hell hoping to find

some greater knowledge or bit of wisdom to learn.

But I stayed too long only to waste my time

searching for a place where bridges never burn.

Friends now left, gather around my heart,

I will share whatever is left of it with your own.

With you I have shared much, including a dizzying art

comforting me rarely, yet from which I am never alone.

The world cannot touch us, we must persevere

as a family united together whose resolve is stern.

Walking arm in arm without hesitation or fear

searching for a place where bridges never burn.
