Liberation

I'm not sure why I post this.. especially because it's old and stuff. I guess I have too much time in my hands. Anyway, feel free to hate it :D

I hear their steps from the hallway
as they come to take me with them.
It has been a long, long time
since the door to my cell was opened;
It´s rusty and stiff and makes sounds.

I am led out from the dungeon
by two knights in their full gear by my side
-A tribute to what I once was-
The chains are getting lighter
with every step I take closer to freedom.

I step into the castle yard
and through the hallway made by knights
I reach a platform of my liberation
in the center of the yard.

I walk the stairs up alone.
My escorts stay where they are.
Finally I stand in front of my liberator
and face him with no fear.

I see a glimpse of respect in the eyes
of a dark, black hooded figure
when he raises his sword.
For the last greeting of a knight.

I kneel down and lay my head on the stone
and when the sword rises again to set me free
I look at the sun
And see forgiveness.

Hate it? Surely you jest! What an amazing account of the final walk and thoughts of the executed. I even feel the liberation in it. When did you write this, and what was its prompting? Excellent commentary being made throughout it, Boogahbo.

lizzytysh, thank you for your words :D I wrote it when I was 16.. I don't remember where I got the inspiration from, though. Too much time has passed since.

I ditto Lizzy! Have you experienced deja vu-type feelings, dreams or flash-backs, about such things? It sounds very like a past-life memory to me. 8)

Makera, that's very interesting theory -and even more so if it was true.. To be able to remember past lives.. But I must say there has been no such deja vus or dreams. Even though I dream about lot of things, there has been no knights. At least not that i can remember :?

Actually, Boogahbo, you don't have to literally 'remember' past lives in order to get a sense of 'when', 'where' and 'what' you may have been before.
For clues, you only have to examine what you have an affinity for, or an innate understanding of, that cannot be explained by your family, influences or experiences in this life.
For instance, what other cultures and historical periods are you most drawn to, repelled or fascinated by, without any apparent reason in conscious experience? Such feelings don't come from nowhere, and could be significant in self-understanding. (There are a few historical novelists who know their authentic sounding 'feel' for the periods they write about comes from past life experiences in those times.)
It's just some food for thought, anyway.
