Hello all. My name is Jayne Sachs and I've been a Leonard Cohen fan for many, many years. I'm a singer/songwriter based out of Dayton, Ohio USA. I had the GREAT pleasure of seeing Leonard Cohen in Detroit a few short months ago. I was totally blown away. And then I found this wonderful website and forum.

If you click on "audio", it will take you to several songs. The first song is called Celebrate Yourself. I posted it there for you especially because I was influenced by Leonard's "Who By Fire" when writing this song... it's my own take on the struggles people live with. I would never presume that you would listen further, but the following song "Twisted Ballerina" won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and has traveled the world raising awareness about Child Sexual Abuse. It's a tough song to take in, just a pre-warning.

But my main objective was to introduce myself to you all and to direct you to "Celebrate Yourself" if you so desire.

hello jayne. yes, you may indeed introduce yourself. you are beautiful both to look at and to listen to. makes me wish i was 30 years younger. your voice is seductive enough to be turned up a little bit, or the instrumentation just slightly down, to allow the words to be more naked. i liked the line: "all love is alive with flowers" - because you look as gorgeous as a flower yourself. i saw the youtube interview as well, and felt i got quite close to a rose hiding like a hesitant maiden at the back of the dance-hall; and beneath the petals i could almost reach its luscious centre, the ovary. waiting for pollenation. a couple of times you were unforgivably interrupted before finishing what you wanted to say, something that should never occur when sweet sounds delicately trip over such voluptious lips. but it was entertaining to watch him wringing his hands and not know quite what to do with them. well, as a student of body language i believe he subconsciously knew exactly what he'd like to do with them - but so would any red-blooded male standing in his shoes at the time. lucky swine. good luck, jayne - and thank you.

Hi Jayne ~

I've not been in this section much of late, so am no doubt missing a number of things. However, I'm glad I didn't miss your writing and singing. I love the sweet syncopation in your voice as you sing. I really like the serious nature of your writing, with your choice and treatment of topics. Finally, I really appreciate your having posted the link to the interview for us, Geoffrey. Thanks. I'm interested in reading the Ghost lyrics, Jayne, as it seems the song resonates with me for a reason. I found that I could listen to the lyrics better if I weren't watching you sing, as I was taken by the way your facial expressions reenforce the seriousness of your songs.

Another thing I really liked was how you very simply and matter-of-factly, as a clear aspect of your ongoing, musical life, incorporated Leonard's music with your reference to his blue raincoat.

[I had said more, but I hit some key by accident and half of it disappeared ! Now I'm off to do some other things that have been awaiting doing.]

Mary, to answer your question, one of the producers I've worked with silently passed me a cassette in 1996 right before driving back to Ohio from NYC... it was Leonard Cohen, a compilation that he (the producer) put together. That cassette is all I listened to the entire way. I loved everything about what I was hearing and feeling. I went on to get all of his work... as much as I could find, music and print. He has been a source of inspiration to me ever since. His writing makes me want to write. The Detroit concert two months ago was my first time seeing him. I was almost front and almost center and most certainly a changed human being after.
And now I have found you all. I'm glad this site exists.

I'm very fine on this Monday in July. Thanks Seadove. I've been recovering from an injury that happened right after I saw LC in Detroit on May 9th. And for this entire recovery, I've focused on Leonard's music and his books and books about him. It's been quite the LC time, but it has helped immensely. Thank you and hope all is well with you!
