Video Conferencing for Leonard Cohen Fans

I have begun exploring desktop video conferencing using iChatAV http://www.apple.com/ichat/ and the iSight camera http://www.apple.com/isight/ on Mac G4 and G5 machines. Last night I had quite a successful video conference with a doctor in Christchurch, New Zealand from my G4 laptop in a hotel room in Bethesda, Maryland, USA using cable modem broadband. Not only were we able to see and hear each other perfectly like being in the same room but we could easily exchange image files and document between our computers. The iSight camera also works as a document camera so you can point it at something that has text and read it.

I would like to extend this beyond my medical life and also use it for connections between Cohen fans. Not only would it be fun, it would also be a practical advance in planning future Leonard Cohen events. You would need a broadband connection and have to have a Mac G4 or G5 machine, and need either an AIM or AOL ID or a mac.com address, but also it would only take one person to start, so that's what I am looking for: That one person to start the activity with!

Looking forward to your replies!

All the best. - Kim

I am sure you will be snowed under with offers with such a wide ranging and open criteria.

Yes, I understand, but an AIM ID is free and easily obtained:

The other stuff represents a bit of a barrier, but I only need one person to start!

Oh yes, Heretic/Partisan/p/etc. ~

I immediately [on the main-page listing of sections, with most recent contributors] noticed the intentional, inaccurate spelling of my "name" [of course, you had no choice], and presumably so will others. However, just in case, mine is with a "y" not an "o" ~ or an "i", in case you decide to try it again. You can't really do a creditable imitation of me, but you're in there with a caricature  . My Florida's also in the U.S.A. ~ yours, in dreamland :) . So, your poem didn't have the impact you'd hoped for  , so you decided to kick it into higher gear :P ? Or, are you hiding behind my skirts to say what you really want to say to Kim, publicly  , to make fun of him?

Now, shall I demonstrate for you what replying to every post really looks like  ?

Kim ~

Your idea sounds like a fun one, and very practical for Event planning, as you've suggested. It may not be out of the question for some, and I personally don't intend to make such purchases, but out of curiousity for some who may, what kind of costs are you talking about to obtain the proper equipment/services?

For someone already using a modern Mac computer and the latest operating system, Panther (OS 10.3), the only purchase is the iSight camera which is less than $200, so that would be the only expense.

Oh, Lizzy (the real one, of course), you have an imitater!!? How flattering! :D The 'sincerest form' they say.
You lucky, lucky thing you... Only true 'stars' get impressions done of them, wow!!! I'm impressed, Madam Tysh! 8)

With a reverential bow,

KimSolez, you should know that there are people close to Leonard who know about your Leonard Cohen Nites. And they think they are a joke. Some of us lurk on these boards and forums and chat rooms. If you enjoy having your name bandied about your goal is achieved weekly, but any furthering of your other goals is sheer ego-feeding.

Uh huh! Well anyone associate with Leonard would not send such a message and from such an IP! Besides this is thread drift , not what we are talking about.

Hi Kim,

This does sound exciting! But what exactly is a Mac G4/G5. I know what a Mac is but is the G4/G5 a newer model? Is it expensive? Some would say it isn't important to "see" other members but what fun it could be!

Hi Lizzytysh,

Pay no attention to that creature Heretic/partisan or his confederate starfish. :( Starfish only wishes his name were bandied about weekly by those close to Leonard. :) You obviously are known to Leonard and this fact rankles your critics. Continue to be yourself! 8)

Hi Makera and Coco :D ~

Makera ~ I'm still laughing  8) .

Coco ~ Thanks for your kind posting. I hear you  . The only two "corrections" I might make are that the silliness  of the name being bandied about was directed at Kim, not me [that doesn't change Starfish's wishes, though  ]; and that I'm known to Leonard, inasmuch as I extended my good wishes on his birthday, along with a number of others :) . Nonetheless, the essence remains the same, and I hear you  . Thanks again for your kindness. I agree that Kim's idea is a good one.

Software for both mac and pc is available for what you are inquiring about.
And it is FREE.

1) Mac Link (Cu-See-Me 1.0)
http://www.rocketcharged.com/cu-seeme/m ... load&cid=1

or another mac link is
http://www.hubble.net/files.htm <- alternative download link for mac

2) Windows link (Cu-See-Me 1.0)
http://www.hubble.net/files.htm

With this software both windows, or mac operating system can be utilized--meaning all users can use this software, and communicate without spending any money for software.

A reflector, shorform ref, is used as meeting location. There are many refs operating on the web that can be used for FREE that allows for many many people to meet.

The only thing people would need is a digital camera. ($50-$100 US) This suggestion is a low cost alternative which allows all operating systems to participate.

A friend of mine helped develop this techonology.

Regards,
Peter

Such a perfect example of the problem with this board Coco.
Your written comprehension skills are sadly lacking.
Starfish's post had nothing at all to do with Tysh.
Your post speaks volumes about your assumptions prior to reading everything.
I refer you back to "Things i can learn from a bitch"
You seem to be learning well.
