This heart-filling prayer song is one I remember from my childhood when my mother would sing favourite songs from her youth and childhood. (The melody to this is so lovely; I can't sing it lately..when I try my h/ea\rt ... :( )

A prayer is appropriate anywhere, wouldn't you say? By a mother with her child, by an adult on a Poetry Forum.....whether the words are their own, or those of another.....prayers for the safety of others are always appropriate.

As to this prayer song, I have no idea of its origin. I saw it, not that long ago, published in the local paper here. I do, however, know the origin of my own prayer, for people worldwide, which included the brave men that this one refers to. There are so many brave men, so many places. Some are already home, just not safely so.

Never having presumed myself to be in a position [or to have the right] to tell another person they have no right to pray or to offer a prayer [in whatever form] for the safety of others, worldwide ~ with my understanding of G~d, even S/He wouldn't do that. Yet, a mere mortal would? "Hey you ~ over there! Off your knees! Outside! I saw that grimace before you walked in the door! And that pain in your heart? Better check the rules on how you deal with that! Be ready for inspection before you try entering here again! If you come back, wait at the door, and be sure you ask for me!" The "rancour in the heart" = the "indignation;" that which gives life, and the wholeness of our being, meaning? [Rhetorical question] ~

Never having, ex-post-facto, stood guard at the door of a section, to strike down someone who "falsely" entered there ~ only to later violate those stringent rules meself ~

"Your vision is right, my vision is wrong. Forgive me for smudging, the air with my prayer." ~

The "essential difference" seems not so "essential."

Makera, thanks for bringing something new to my screen. It shows us all that we all pray to the same G-d. A couple of quotes I discovered about G-d are that there is one church but many chapels, and also, that G-d builds the church, but the devil fills it with chapels. I thought of these 2 when I read once again your Desiderata piece. I've explained elswhere that religious strife has caused so much trouble, and none more so than Northern Ireland, where they throw stones at 5 year olds on their way to their particular church school. You mention George Wright and I enjoy his poetry coming as it does from that troubled province. He bursts out of my screen like a whirlwind and I really get a lift from his take on life, given the things he must have seen and heard.

Byron~ I'm not sure what you are trying to say, apart from the obvious fact that religion, as opposed to Spirituality, is the cause of so much strife. I am not an advocate for any 'religions' or 'chapels' or churches. With my temple within and Truth my God, I only ever speak (in such matters) of what I Know, from a Source I cannot question when Moved to speak. They have never proved me false.
