Two New Songs

I've posted two new songs to my website today, and I thought there might be some here who are interested. Stories behind each are in my blog, as is a bit of a story about my show on April 25 with a link to photos.

My website is now 2 1/2 months old, with 12 songs posted, and lots more pending. When I think about what brought me to this point in my musical life, near the top of the list was the support I got from so many here at the forum. It means more than I can express.

Here are the lyrics, hope you're doing well.

Sleep Tight

Don't look out the window
Or you'll surely be scared
There's a bogieman coming
No one else knows he's there

He's walking past the driveway
No one turned on the light
He's looking for your bedroom
Sleep tight

Mom and Dad can't hear him
The dog is fast asleep
Your Teddy can't protect you
Better not make a peep

Don't cry too loudly'
Or he'll hear you through the night
Hide under the covers
And sleep tight

Act cool
Here he comes
(whistling)

Maybe he'll go to Jimmy's
And leave you alone
Maybe he wants your brother
Or maybe you're on your own

It's time to close your eyes
And pray that you'll be alright
Dream a happy dream
And sleep tight

Sleep tight

Schadenfreude

Jesus said I should forgive
And always turn the other cheek
Love my neighbor as myself
The earth’s inherited by the meek
Bad things happen to everyone
There’s no difference, rich or poor
Today I’m feeling happy
Because, finally, thankfully,
You were thrown face-first out the door

Once you were my boss, those days are dead and gone
Acted like you were the king, and the rest of us your pawns
They packed up all your things, you’re on a permanent vacation
Now both of us are drinking, but for me it’s a celebration

No more timeshares
No country club
This is the real world
And you’re now a schlub

You drove me crazy
You were so lazy
Now you’re dirt
And I’m glad you hurt

Talked down to me in meetings, and made me feel like shit
Took credit for my work without even understanding it
Promotions, raises, bonuses, you thought it was your due
You got careless with the facts, and it all caught up with you

Gold-digger wife
Spoiled-rotten kids
It’s crashing down
You’re on the skids

You drove me crazy
You were so lazy
Now you’re dirt
And I’m glad you hurt

I know I should feel guilty for this happy mood I feel
Delighting in your pain, the truth has been revealed
You’d order surf and turf at places that were nice
Now you’ll be taking handouts, dining on beans and rice

No warning signs
You felt alright
You woke up fine
Unemployed tonight

You drove me crazy
You were so lazy
Now you’re dirt
And I’m glad you hurt

You’re a failure!

JUST now getting a chance to listen to these, John. Catch-up has to come in these odd little snippety ways. I LOVE "Sleep Tight" ~ groovin', forward movin,' and the guitar reminds me a bit of "Summertime Blues" ~ remember that? Loved that song, too. The lyrics are wow a little spooky interesting. Very creative there. I like the whistling, too.

Haha, John. WoW. Got some catharsis there going on in "Schadenfreude." I really really like how your songs sound so different from each other. I like the singing tone of your voice in this one, too... and the lyrics, well, they could have a corporate circuit all their own  . Looks like someone you know got their comeuppance, and I won't even bother will whether you should be feeling or singing as you are... sometimes you just gotta, right?

Hey... might as well keep going. Here I am at Church Street. You have a real bittersweet, poignant quality in your voice that I like. Your harmonica goes really well with it, and I've always loved the harmonica. Interesting lyrics, again. I really like your songs, John. Let us know when you get a cd together... please don't do one of those 15-20 songs on one, though. You know, spread them out a bit.

Just finishing listening to "It Dawns" and I'm having to spread out my listening, too, but at least I've finally gotten started 8) . Your lyrics are unique and so clear. Thanks for putting these out here for sharing. I like the echo effects on this one.

I've really gotta get off here now. I'll pick up with this soon. Thanks, again, John :D .

Hi Lizzy - Thank you for taking the time to listen to my songs and to let me know what you think. I'm having alot of fun with my songwriting and recording, even when the songs are not so fun sounding. The reaction to my site has been very positive, and that's been encouraging and energizing.

I'm glad you liked the songs, please visit again.
