Here is the you tube link to the Jian Ghomeshi interview with LC from earlier today. I haven't listened or watched it yet, will do as soon as the baby naps.

Enjoy all.

I'm in awe of his modesty. After the most amazing 42 minutes LCs main concern is that it might not have been interesting, "If it's not, we can go on until we get something" ~ at which point the interviewer is so at ease with this avuncular figure that he reveals his own anxieties as if he's asking LC for answers.

What a thoughtful and great interview. Leonard is such a modest and unassuming person...

Leonard singing Piaf - Non, je ne le regrette rien in response to being asked if he "regrets, at times, not having a life long partner" is a highlight for me.....Edith Piaf can be seen performing this song with the composer, Charles Dumont (Michel Vaucaire wrote the lyrics), by clicking here....her "studio version" can be heard by clicking here

The section Leonard sings:

Non je ne regrette rien
Ni le bien... qu'on m'a fait
Ni le mal, tout ça m'est bien égal...
Non... rien de rien
Non... je ne regrette rien

No, I regret nothing
Whether it's the good it's been done to me
or the bad, it's all the same to me!
No! absolutely nothing...
No, I regret nothing.

....maybe it will make the setlist....

Love, love, love this interview. The first time I saw Jian Ghomeshi was in the looney Billy Bob Thornton interview that was all over the internet last week. I admired his professionalism and composure during that, and knew an interview with him and LC (a person with manners) would be great. The last couple of minutes are astonishing in their intimacy.

Another interesting short read about LC's recent CBC interview. This piece is the producer's take on the whole process of interviewing Leonard Cohen - the difficult handlers, trying set-up and of course the immense pleasure at actually meeting and speaking with the man himself, at his Montreal home no less.

Dream Warrior wrote: While one of M. Cohen's recurring themes is the isolation of the soul, he has done so much to bridge the chasms which exist between us and in the process, I think, allowed all of us to feel a little less alone.
You're right, Dream Warrior, and what you say reminds me of the answer LC gave to the question raised in this CBC interview in response to the question about "what LC would have said to Kurt Cobain that might have made a difference". I thought that was one stupid question amongst several in the interview (which like many of elderly stars seemed to have been largely concerned with issues designed to create future TV obituary footage). Fortunately, though the answers LC provided inevitably come across as somewhat evasive of the questions as a consequence, they also seemed to provide some oblique wisdom in the process. And, apart from his cheeky grin, that's what makes the boy magical.

I must agree with UrPal, there were a number of 'stupid' questions. I generally enjoy Jian Ghomeshi's interview style, but I found the questions to be entirely unoriginal. While I of course enjoyed hearing LC speak for some 40 minutes, I learned nothing new, gained very little new insight. I think Jian could have done better. And enough with the aging and death questions, just because someone is over 60 ... .

To be fair, the interview probably wasn't intended for the more 'serious' LC fan that we would likely find on this forum, but for a more general audience, perhaps an audience still unaware of the greatness of the man. And in that respect, it probably was a great interview that may have gained LC some new fans.

I don't think we can entirely blame Mr. Ghomeshi for the quesions. LC first brought death into the conversation when he was talking about the third act ending in the death of the central protagonist..... "and we're all the central figure in the drama of our own lives"
