The Leaf

waiting
for the leaf to fall
having withered golden brown and yellow
and the wind lifts it and carries it to the summit of the highest peak
past the birds and the planes
where it lies embossed in the pure white snow
never trampled by man just beast
and the cold snow falls and preserves it for eternity
a cryogenic accident of nature
not man egotism frozen in hope of a cure
that elevates the leaf to Godhood
its beauty captured forever in it's most glorious colours
a universal symbol of hope
never to die but never to be seen
untill the mountain becomes the plain
and the leaf may be lifted again
