Amina Lawal ACQUITTED!

AMINA LAWAL ~ ACQUITTED! Their reasoning, "She was never given adequate opportunity to defend herself" does nothing in terms of the root issue. However, at least Amina will LIVE, and a nick of "progress" has been made with that alone~!!! At least, for the moment, they did not go backward, and the reality of her remaining alive speaks its own message, regardless of what the powers-that-be may account it to! I cannot believe that all the pleas for her coming in from worldwide had no impact and effect on their consciences, thinking, and rationale.

They could not allow themselves to be seen to be influenced by external pressure, Elizabeth, they would have lost face. However, they very sensibly found a loophole within their own legal system, and the case will hopefully cause others to think twice before embarking on a similar course.

That was my take on it, too, actually, Linmag. For the record, it would have been gratifying to address the human rights issue head-on in their decision. However, I do think you're right [or certainly hope so] that the prospect of a deluge of international mail, emails, and phone calls [probably some on-site protesters, as well] may deter them at least a little, at least for awhile. Grand, wouldn't it be, if they just discarded that level of punishment?

Unfortunately, they believe it's written into their religion. Not an easy one for them.

True, and, hence, the clash of cultures.
