Cezanne Sketches Down

(With Apologies to Leonard Cohen, First Attempted Draft for George the Greek)

Cezanne sketches down
Mont St-Victoire by the river
You can see the birds fly by
You can spend the night together
You know the Impressionists are crazy
But Parisian Cafés attracts the company of strangers
The French fashion for ladies silks on camera
Arriving on the silk-road from Asia-Minor
Just when Maths has all the answers
To find that English has all the questions
The life models now relax with a masseur
Cezanne's paintings are getting drier
Have you've always been an art lover?
And you want to tango with the Lady
Tango with her beauty tango blind
Tango, step inside each other's open bodies
The tango touched the model's perfect image
But you've only really tangoed with her mind

Vallier, was his gardener
Who modelled in a garden chair
He spent his time with plants and water
Knowing stone had hidden powers
But Einstein knew for certain
That E equals MC squared
That Quantum Gravity was with him
And only Space-Time could see him
Saying all men are space travellers
Planet Fruits from the Cosmic Garden
The Big Bang before and after
Was only the sound of God's laughter
Conceptual Art and Modern Architecture
And you want to tango with the Lady
Tango with her beauty tango blind
Tango; step inside each other's open bodies
The tango touched the model's perfect image
But you've only really tangoed with her mind

Cezanne, Zola and the Bathers
At different times, undressed by the river
They used fig leaves that were bigger
To find a place shadier, denser, darker and greener
The heat haze was just shimmering
On Madonna's smoking poker players
Show me Cupids broken arrows in sinners
That all men put seeds in flowers
Eros was the Hero in Summer
That became children one Spring Morning
Love needs kissed and cuddled in Winter
Suzanne and Cezanne, takes and makes us voyeurs
In the vicarious pleasures of art as nature's winners
And you want to tango with the Lady
Tango with her beauty tango blind
Tango; step inside each other's open bodies
The tango touched the model's perfect image
But you've only really tangoed with her mind

Hi Ben,

I have to say I have read several of your works and you are a very clever and articulate creator.

I love the application of mathematics in music and language....it always has fascinated me.

Also - your sense of humour is very refreshing.

Thanks for the writing - I look forward to more.

Dear Ben,

a recent new forum member named Yankovic Gretsky, aka Wierd Al, posted something under the "Covers" section about parodies of Cohen songs. I was trying to direct him to your poem ,but he doesn't appear to have noticed, (yet)

Actually, Margaret [I've tried to nail this down, for sure, myself :? ], I think Yankovic Gretsky is someone who just really likes Weird Al Yankovic, someone who is well known over here for his musical parodies of songs. He wears thick-framed black glasses. I could be wrong, but it would be quite interesting if 'the' Weird Al were actually here.
