Cohen on Coronation Street! (not Boogie)

Last night's episode of the long running British TV soap opera had a passing reference to Mr Cohen - and there you were all thinking that you'd missed him doing a duet with Norris in the Rovers Return.

Yes, Glyn, I saw that - just another indicator that Corrie is the best soap on the box!

I have watched Coronation St since the year dot, but over the last few weeks I have been wondering whether to keep watching it.....the story lines have been farcical and over-acted and under-acted
After each episode I have uttered, 'that's it..no more...I've got better things to do'
but last night there was a sign..... Leonard got a mention
and it was quite a good episode for a change
so I'll stick with it
Pete
I think I ought to mention here a quote from a book called 'The Diamond's Mine'
'......Leonard was moved by the occasion and settled himself in front of the TV. He pressed the remote and was immediately confronted by a faceless lady in white, fake fur peering into the room. He guessed he had tuned into a shopping programme and, because he once vowed never again to negotiate with a white, fake fur, faceless lady, he quickly changed channels. He did once surrender to one but that was never proven.
Instead, he found himself engrossed in ‘Coronation Street’ (for our non-UK readers here, ‘Coronation Street’ is a northern TV soap of long standing where everyone lives in the local pub and eats Betty’s hotpot).
“Do I get a good luck kiss from you, Leonard?”
But Leonard was already treading the cobbles........... '

I had to watch the omnibus Corrie on Sunday because of this thread. I have been fairly lax watching Corrie lately (I have stopped watching ‘Enders totally because it is so badly acted) the storylines in Corrie were getting more and more bizarre that I thought for my sanity’s sake I would knock it on the head. Any who I watched it on Sunday just for the Cohen bit.
Being mentioned on Corrie is actually quite an accolade not many real people living or dead are ever actually mentioned so well done Leonard. The soap that never has a black face or unemployment knows who Leonard is. Result!!!

I'm in the same boat as Pete with Corrie in that I've been watching it since the very first episode way back in the old black and white days. In fact it may be the only reason I still have a TV.

Paula I would like to take you back to a back room in pub in a rain sodden Manchester in June of this year. Didn't I have to restrain you from mobbing a certain black actor who runs a certain taxi firm in a certain ' continuing drama' set in Weatherfield.
It's a pity that it was the evil John Snape the love cheat teacher and corrupter of his young teenage female pupils who was the one who name-checked Leonard. Whereas the following night the lovely romantic and much talented Vernon quoted a line from the Bob Dylan song 'The Times They Are A-Changin'.
There's a couple of out of work actors that drink in my local that do a lot of work as extras on Corrie and they told me that last week when they arrived on the set in was covered with missing posters for the dreadful Rosie Webster.
Warrior reckon Pete?
After tonight's episode I'm going for Tony from the factory.
Leonard's name came up quite unexpectingly in the musical 'Eric's' at the Liverpool Everyman the other night. It's a play cum musical that tells the story of the other basement club in Matthew Street here Liverpool. Eric's was the club that in the mid seventies gave us Echo and The Bunnymen, Teardrop Explodes, Wah, Elvis Costello, Big In Japan, Holly Johnson, Julian Cope, Deaf School amongst others.
At one point in the play the actor playing Pete Wylie of the Wah defends Ian MaCulloch of the Bunnymen saying that Ian might be a bit of a w*nker but he has a great voice which sounds like David Bowie and Leonard Cohen on a blind date.
I must say it summoned up a rather disturbing image at the time:-)

Ken,
Now you've gone and spoiled my suspense. We won't get that episode here for another couple of months.
Well, I guess I didn't have to read your post, but the Corrie/Cohen thread is hard to resist..
Actually, knowing John Snapes said it is a letdown...I was hoping for something more off the wall.

Wot do I reckon? If you're behind with the episodes do not read on.......one of these might be right!!
I reckons she's got herself in a bit of a fix.I don't read the soap magazines so I just have to self speculate.
1. She's run off with the lottery winnings.
2. Stapes(or is it Snapes?) has put her in detention.
3. Cruella Carla has skinned her and made her into a coat for Liam's dog.
4. Tony has given her the eye..and she's run off with it. Have you noticed how his left eye nearly pops out?
5. Kevin has secretly sent her to finishing school.
6. She's gone to the smoke.
7. She's gone up in smoke
8. All of the above.
That's my self speculation spent up now.
der de de der der derrrr.

Ken in my defence I was impressed with Craig Charles on the basis of Red Dwarf!!!
Pete the sooner they encase Rosie Webster in a concrete jacket the better along with a couple of others. I use to think the wonan who played Carla was stunning looking (well she was in the Daz advert) but now I think her face is strange.
On the subject of Corrie has anyone seen the Ledamer (sic) ad for cheese is the actress in that the same actress who used to work in Roys Rolls and now works in the Rovers. It has been bugging me for months

Yes, Paula, it's the one and the same (Becky Granger - Katherine Kelly). A great character.

As there are quite a few 'Corrie' fans here, I thought I would revive this old thread in order to add a further Leonard Cohen reference.
Last Friday's episode had Ryan Connor playing (on guitar) and singing Hallelujah at the end of Tina and Jason's houseparty.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll see it some day, I guess, but I actually no longer have a TV. (Corrie is the ony show I actually miss....)

Instead of our pilgrimage to Hydra maybe we could arrange for the next big meet-up after Krakow to be at the Corrie set. How glamourous...what a list of experiences !
Hydra - June 09
Barcelona - Sept 09
Krakow - Aug 2010
Manchester ??????
Oh G*d - I've finally lost it.

I'll only accept Leonard is big time when his songs appear on Star Trek - I so want to see T'Pol singing "You Have loved enough" to me

is it just me or does the actor who plays tony in corrie look a little like a young leonard cohen?
i'll have to go looking for some pictures to prove it!!
