Birds of a Feather Burn Together

What compels birds on a wire
to settle for conducted fire
when just above the dull-ash spire
electric skies bode something higher?
What Zarathustra rose in Icarus?
Perhaps it was the land grew thick with us
that high-wire acts are all he sought
to telegraph his flightless lot.
I should add that I have the highest regard for Mr. Cohen's work. These are offered in the spirit of fun, nothing more. --Norman Ball
