Here are good hotels I can personally recommend. Note this will be a busy week in the city. I am already booked into the Delta. The Hyatt is literally across the street from Place des Arts. The Delta and Holiday Inn are about a 12 minute walk.

Leonard's Montreal - a walking tour

Leonard's present home - walk north on Boulevard St. Laurent - about 20 minutes north of Sherbrooke - there is a small park on the right called Parc Portugale, enclosed by four streets, St. Laurent, Vallieres, Marie-Anne and St. Dominique. On the corner of Vallieres and St. Dominique is the red brick Montreal Zen Centre. Leonard's house is the greyish 3 story attached to the Zen Centre. The park and its benches are public domain but let's not bother Leonard in his home. Who knows, if we coordinated a visit to the park he might come out and say hello! Leonard's childhood home is at 599 Belmont Avenue. There are a hundred ways to walk there from downtown so check Google Maps for directions. It's about a good hour's plus hilly walk from downtown. Make sure to continue to the lookout at Mont Royal for a wonderful view of the city. Cafe Helios (where Suzanne took Leonard for tea and oranges) is at 119 Rue de la Commune Ouest (West). Our Lady Of The Harbour. Start from Cafe Helios and walk eastward (water on your right) about 0.5 miles, keep looking upward to your left.

You can have fun pretty much anywhere in Montreal during the Jazz festival, just walking around la 'Place des Arts' there will be tons of people, outdoor shows etc. The 'Plateau Mont-Royal' area would be interesting to get a feeling of the French Quebec (take metro Mont-Royal or walk North on St-Denis street). Try to speak a few words of French, it makes us happy. There is also a lot of bars in the Crescent street area, it's a more Anglo scene.

On June 24th is also the 'St-Jean-Baptiste', the national Quebec holiday. There should be a lot of partying going on with a lot of flag waving. Do not be scared, French quebeckers are not the Anglo eating freaks that some newspapers like the National Post would like you to believe.

However, although many people in Montreal are bilingual, please don't take for granted that everybody can speak English as it can be very annoying. A simple 'Do you speak English?' or even better 'Parlez-vous anglais?' will do the trick.

And as Steve said, make sure you do not wait too much to make hotel reservations...

Montreal is a very easygoing town, you should enjoy it a lot.

I agree with the party in the park idea! I tried to get a chelse hotel themed party going but didn't get much feedback!
