King Edward
was a potato
and this often got in the way
of his duties as Monarch,
his Royal Dignity
diminishing each time he rolled off the throne.

I heard Ted Kooser on the radio a bit ago reading Valentine poems that he sent to a list of some 1000s of women who had signed up for his Valentine list. One of the poems involved a red potato, and it was a poem I enjoyed, though don't really remember now. I wondered if I could write a poem that involved potatoes, and I remembered this time when I was with my sister in her garden. If my potatoes in any way inspired you, then I hope yours inspire someone else as well.
Long live the Potato!
I laughed when I read this.

I don't know if you Americans have the King Edward species of potato, here in Belgium it is considered an all-rounder, not really the best for anything but serviceable for mash, baked, chipped, probably anything except boiled.
