the love of Americans

In so many ways they show their love
in their movies, stories, books, songs, words they speak and the way they touch you
they tell of a love of open skies
a love of clear running water
a love of untouched wilderness
a love of a land that stretches from sea to sea
a love of the chaos of thrieving cities
a love of dancing and drinking into the night
a love of people embracing diversified cultures
a love of family working out problems together
a love of snowcapped mountains as well as sweeping golden fields
a love of freedom
a love of caring for those being hurt by freedom
in short, a love of the magnificent
and from sea to sea they have bordered on the magnificent and shown their love
for Canada and Canadians
and we are a quiet people
but are greatly moved by this love
and what they have whispered in our ears
and so now when the world is so often speaking against them
I feel moved to take a small stand on their behalf
and light my little candle
and tell the world of something
that they have whispered in my ear
about something that got out of control
that has been done
and so i tell
with the words of the Canadian Leonard Cohen
"It's over.
It ain't going any further"
That is what they seem to be whispering in my ear.
They do whisper so sweetly, but you need to be close to them to hear it.

A beautiful tribute, Jack. I may not be the American, but as an American, this is a piece of writing that I appreciate very much. I also thank you.

Well done Laz...

Speaks about the frustration we, non-Americanos, feel about the so-called leader of the free world!!!!
It's a pity you don't put into positions of leadership people who represent what is best about the American people.
We, in Ireland for instance, don't necessarily do it either.... but... the tragedy, or sadness lies in the fact that your President and his/her Admin. has way too much clout... and way too much of a say in what happens to the rest of the world...

But... as the lad Zimmerman, has a habit of saying: The times they are a changin'....

WE hope...

I'm canadian
people don't need to depend on leadership from political leaders.
in canada, usa or ireland
if you don't believe me ask yourself

To the 'Leaders' of every single land...

As Mr Zimmerman pointed out 45 years ago:

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

-----------------

"It's over
it ain't going any further" ?

It hasn't begun

It must have been a habit that could be broken because more recently he has said "Times Have Changed"

Nice, optimistic poem, Jack

Reminds me of:
It's coming to America first
The cradle of the best and of the worst
It's here they got the range
And the machinery for change
And it's here they got the spiritual thirst
It's a powerful place!
