If One Day The Sign Was Sent

If One Day The Sign Was Sent
I would descend the mountain
One last time
If I heard the order
From on high
I would do so slowly
Imperceptibly
Descend down to the valley
And one day I would find thee
I would wander through the markets
Strolling through the streets
And when I was ready
You would arrange to meet
Wordlessly, no change of pace
Heartbeat still
No mental race
No game of will
Like Brando in Last Tango
I wouldn't ask your name
You wouldn't ask me mine
We wouldn't need that game
Our place of rest
Another gift
Would manifest
And there we'd drift
All would be
The play before
We wouldn't need
Any more
Motionless in bliss
Entwined in still embrace
Like those Tibetan couples
In a state of grace
daka
Relax, ladies, the sign has not been sent!
I would descend the mountain
One last time
If I heard the order
From on high
I would do so slowly
Imperceptibly
Descend down to the valley
And one day I would find thee

Strolling through the streets
