poem #1 (Early September 2009)

each day
I think
of the time
we found
ourselves
in congregation
and left our mark
on the landscape
and left a mark
on me
and in me
for each day
I remember
I remember
everything
even the gaps
and the cracks
and the togetherness
and the comforting solitude
we all shared
and I see the smiles
I see them each day
and I hear the laughter
echoing
echoing
our appreciation
of what we had
and what we were
and each day
that I think of each day
it becomes more real
for it was real
and it is real
and I’ll not forget
those days
for they are now
part of my landscape
and yours
and sharing this
with you all
enhances my days
each day

Poem #2 (Late September 2009)

Each week
I remember
the time we spent
together
as one
with one another
on the mountain
they call
that name I forget
and with one another
in the evening
in that pub
with Evan singing Orbison
Each week
I remember
the village in the rain
and the meal
we shared
and the lobster
and the lady playing
the harpischord
as we ate
together
as one
Each week
I remember.


Poem #3 (October 2009)

Each month
I remember
something
that happened
in September.
Sometimes
I remember
it
like it was yesterday
or was it
the day before?
I remember
some cloudy mist
all cloudy
and misty
and people dancing
on summits
I think
and I remember
a train
which has derailed
my memories.
I also see colours
and bright skies
and a number
9?
or 6?
Everything inverts
in my recollections
of the time
we spent
in each other's company
listening to a rendition
of Tom Jones.
It's not unusual
for me to try
to remember
something which happened
back in September.
I remember it well.
A hotel?
That jogged something
in the mind's recess.
Each month
I remember.
I try.



Poem #4 (September 2010)

Each year
I remember
the weekend
when we were as one
and over the year
when the memories started to fade
I shut my eyes
and we were there
and the memories are not clouded
they are real
just like me
and you and you and you
I'll never forget
each year
each September
especially when
the sun shines
and even more
when it doesn't.

Hi Phil.

Good to see you keeping this thread alive. Without this thread, i kinda lost interest in the forum.

I have that inbetween summer/autumn blues at the moment, you know the kind..... The nights drawing in faster, the evenings cooler, the television still crap, and the long winter ahead.

Let's keep this thread open, even if it is just you me and Pete and we can keep in touch here. not really a facebook fan either but it is handy for messages from friends and family far away. I think email has died now, as I never get any at all, so at least with facebook, friends that are not on the forum can find me there

Hope you and Jean are well and Ian's wedding looked amazing

Love the poetry you gave me Phil and will read and reread them over the coming months

honouring great men……….

....on this year’s annual pilgrimage to stratford-upon-avon the town's railway station was closed because the usual ‘engineering on the line’ so we had to take a replacement bus service to a station a couple of stops up the line to connect with our birmingham train……

….now stratford-upon-avon like many other towns across the world always have a few buildings or streets named after their local heroes so imagine my surprise and pleasure when looking out from the top deck of the aforementioned replacement bus to see that the people of stratford-upon-avon have already honoured one of our walking friends from the american midwest……….

---who else around here can claim to have a road named in their honour?

........anybody wanting to visit here is a map...just take the birmingham road out of stratford and after about a mile you should spot it.......

With my last name, I've always worried that there would be a street accidentally named for me, but I feared that it would be in one of those "goddamn housing tracts" that Tom Russell sings about where the penchant is for the developers to name streets after their children. To know that it is in Stratford-Upon-Avon is quite a relief and certainly an undeserved honor-although you know how I do love the Bard! Anyway, I would gladly relinquish it to Leonard if asked.
