Erofili Pension didn't answered yet, and Anna's doesn' have the email, but I guess if this one doesn't email us, we'll fax Anna's and them again (I forget I can send fax).
We're still waiting to hear from Croatia Airlines. They have cheap offer "Fly To Europe Eveyrwhere" and Athens is listed as "168 euros". The offer we have is the Hungarian company Air Malev, or Malev Air; we go from Zagreb to Budapest, and the to Athens. But it's quick, less than 6 hours (and 300 euros per person :? ).
The boats are, due to this Partas-Pirraues affair, off, but we've been told in Croatian Railways that there is season train directly for Athens (very cheap) and you guess - the season starts in early June :P So after all we'll took the cheapest way, and travel 20 hours (took the sleeping coupe). Otherwise, out of season, the tarin goes ony to Thessaloniki, and after that you're on your own, like from Partas. It's hard to reach Athens directly it seems.

Now it's all getting so complicated. The plane is 250 euros + 113 euros of taxes (per person). The train is only 120 euros per person. We leave Zagreb at 00:15 and reach Athens two nights and one day later. But before June 1st, the price of sleeping car isn't known (or even is there any :? ) But the price is three times cheaper than the 6-hours flight :?
So we will need coke to Athens a day earlier and get ourself normalised. (I won't even guess how will I look after 30 hours of train thru whole Balkan.)
And then, I am getting nervous about these pension. I saw that Anna's has only three rooms (two already reserved by Margaret & Paula & Elizabeth  ) so I hope someone would answer from that Erofili. In the end, we will simply come and ask for room in local toursit office 8) If it be your will...

Dear Tom ~

Please don't resort to drugs to get you through this  ~ it will only complicate matters, with possible, deleterious, long-term effects  . In the meantime, you will be each other's best cushion for a long trip by train.

Find out from Margaret/Paula the most expedient way of reaching Anna's for arrangements.

Tom:

I know exactly how you will look! I once took a bus across Canada! And Greece was NOT the prize!

I just watched the Holiday program on TV here and one of the places visited was Hydra, and our man was mentioned. :)

Btw. our booking isn't confirmed yet, but hopefully, later this week all should be well. I'm just taking things one step at a time. Flights are booked and room enquiry made. Will follow Jarkko's links for getting from the airport to Hydra.

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if there were pensions cheaper than 50 Euros for a double room per night, which is the cheapest I have found so far.
Not that I would find this far too expensive, it's just that I'm not sure yet
about how,if at all, I'm going to travel, whether somebody is coming with me or not. Should I be going alone, I would like to learn about pensions or hotels
offering single rooms at fair price.
Accomodation normally is the category I try to spend the least money on.

Yes, and two of us here voted that we pay three times more and go with plane instead of train (we'd pay the bills 6 months after the trip then :? )

Bus across Canada - now, that what I'd like to do; or take that famous train and go from sea to sea. (How many months would I need  ) One of my dreams. To see Canada or America, not to visit New York and say I was there as people usually do.

Linda, please consider Berlin 2006 then. Hydra is only because of Greece, island and friends, in Berlin there will be concert etc plus we :P

Tom, yes, Berlin is on my list of things to do! All my Euros are going into a special piggy-bank. I was hoping for Hydra, but it came too fast (in other words, I wasn't paying attention until it was too late). I am, however, hoping to catch a BluesFest in Thunder Bay, Ontario - they have GREAT performers and from what I've heard, the BEST parties. It's OK - go ahead and be jealous of me. :D

Although this might have been asked before,
does anybody know if there is something like THE address
for cheap flights and airlines on the internet?

I don't know of other airlines operating in Europe, but http://www.easyjet.com has budget flights to Athens from Berlin. Maybe some of our other German members here could help ?

Germany oriented cheap airlines:

http://www.easyjet.de (To Athens from Berlin - ca. 100 Euro currently)
http://www.airberlin.de (To Athens from Nürnberg- ca 214 Euro curr)
http://www.germanwings.de (To Athens from Cologne - ca. 190 Euro curr.)
http://www.hlx.de (No flights to Athens)
http://www.ryanair.com (No flights to Athens)

International flights:

http://www.opodo.co.uk

NYC - London, June 7 - June 14:
Kuweit Airlines - costs 191 GBP (non-stop)
Air Canada - costs 374 GBP (1 stop both ways)

NYC - Athens, June 7 - June 14:

Olympic Airways - costs 431 GBP (non-stop)

As for accomodation on Hydra:

I know it is a better feeling to travel with a reservation in advance but my advice is to just go there and rent a private pension at reasonable price. There are plenty of it. It adds to the Hydra experience when you are new.

Thanks Henning :)

Lizzy, it seems there are cheap flights from USA to UK. Maybe the website Henning quoted has details of flights from Florida as well as New York..

I've just checked: Florida to Athens return
from June 10- 19 would be available for 262 GBP for example.
262 British Pounds, that's approx. 390 Euros.
How much would that be in USD?
