Dear Moonlight,
I love discussions, and I never cared, when a dispute got a little bit louder than I deemed necessary. And I like the point you made about families and their arguments. I agree as much as you with what Tony wrote.
Had you but read up a few posts, you would have recognized that I didn't refer to "Heretic and eeey". The "Ladies" (not "laddies") I have been talking to (no "scolding" intended, btw.) didn't exchange "arguments" stormily, as you will find yourself when rereading the flashes of lightning and bouts of thunder...
That's why I asked for mutual respect.
And now let all of us get back together on this Fourth of July.
Best wishes to all fellows and Americans all over the world.
Tom

The Cave Woman and Neandertal man catergory might be over subscribed
My hair has a life of its own I was called Haystack as a child because that is what it resembled. I leave it to its own devices unless I pass a mirror I don't need to see it.

Hello Tom,
I am sorry if I misread your post. But you addressed "Ladies and Godzilla" so That's who I thought you were addressing when you asked them to not "resurrect bad spirits", "stop hostilities," "R-E-S-P-E-C-T!" "nothing's gonna stop you now." and told them there was "still time to change the road you're on." Which maybe isn't a scolding but certainly seems like a lecture.
I mentioned Heretic and eeey in my post because they are men, Heretic started it all. eeey flamed Lizzytysh. Yet you did not say "Ladies and Gentlemen and Godzilla... It isn't just the "Ladies" who fall out with each other.

It isn't just a catfight.
Anyway that's what I was thinking...
And Happy and Safe Fourth of July to you and yours.

I've a terrible premonition that this will all end up with two small groups of supporters giving aid and assistance at a 'Handbags At Dawn' bun fight.

Dawn is far too early for me Byron.
I was brought up in a female only house. If you had a problem with something you let the other person known. Sometimes more vocally than others. But once you said you piece sometimes more than once, if you could agree great if you couldn't you agreed to disagree and got over it. But Jo if I catch you nicking my tights it could all start again

Paula - I bought the pirate his own nice new tights, so he won't need yours anymore - but if I catch you lurking in my thickets again the neanderthal fur will certainly fly
Yours hairfully

Moonlight - thanks for the good wishes. I was referring to what Byron later called a "'Handbags At Dawn' bun fight" only. And Godzilla joined in... Of course: It isn't just the "Ladies", but it had been incidentally this time...
Lady Paula - are you already getting used to it?

By the way, I just wanted to take a look at "Lady Paula's Portrait in the Gallery" but still there is just the Red X... Can it be that you accidentally sent the Calendar Picture, and Jarkko wanted this site to escape Parental Control?
Lady Jo - give my regards to the pirate. A line from a song by Roger McGuinn just crossed my mind:
Pull away me lads from the Cardiff Rose
And hoist the Jolly Roger.

I have never been so insulted in my life! Such accusations! Lady indeed...I'll have you know I have a reputation to keep up - and lady gets nowhere near describing my ample charms.
Pirate? Did I say pirate? I meant ......um ..I meant ....pilot! That's it -Pontius Pilot - he's the one who stole your tights Paula.
...and if anyone's going to be hoisting his roger ..um...hoisting his jolly.....um ...oh dear where was I?
I'm going back to bed. I will not be inseminated ... uuuuhhhhhhh ... incriminated ... yes that's it ... incriminated in public.

Coming back to the main idea about Leonard's 70th birthday....
I have an idea..... it is not quite original but with some 'poetic licence' it can be adapted.
The original idea comes from something I saw in a football (soccer) programme which listed the names of ordinary supporters who had 'sponsored' particular items of players' kit in order to raise money for the club.. the club in question being Chesterfield Town.... who definitely need the money. Names of supporters were listed against different players and items of kit e'g shirt. shorts or socks with the shirt commanding the most sponsorship. Any true supporter was proud to be linked to the players in this way.
The modification would be for Cohen fans to 'sponsor' a Cohen song and/or album and some form of 'programme' to list the songs/albums and the respective sponsors.
There would be a minimum sponsorship for each song and album with some albums commanding higher payments and likewise with the songs. In fact it would be fun trying to set a tariff for each. A minimum payment for each would ensure that specific donations are not obvious and that there is something there which everyone can afford, For example Jazz Police...... £1

rising to Suzanne £20 (I'm guessing here, but these would be minimum donations)
There can be more then one sponsor for each song/album. Some songs/ albums might end up with no sponsors

but it doesn't matter
Now here's the good bit.......
Leonard nominates a charity for the money to be paid to.. which I presume we would like to know before the process starts.
Therefore it becomes something which Leonard is involved in to which we respond to. If he was willing he might want to list his songs/ albums in order in readiness for us to set a sliding scale of minimum payments... if not, then I'm sure we could manage to do it ourselves through this forum.
Thinking about it now gives time to do it.
Those who have sponsored will receive some form of publication to commemorate it all and I'm sure that leonard would appreciate the gesture as much as any present... in fact it becomes the present. I'm sure he doesn't want a pair of slippers for his birthday anyway.
This may not be a good idea and I won't be offended if it doesn't grab the attention. If it does take off I will obviously offer to be involved in the practicalities with any willing volunteers.
regards
Pete

That sounds really excellent, Pete! It even sounds like something Leonard would be willing to allow to happen in his name

~ I sure hope so! You can count on me to help in some fashion if it gets the go-ahead.

Pete that is a really good idea. I wouldn't think Leonard would actually need anything from us as a present but the present could be given in his name to something worthwhile. Really good idea.
