Prince Harry has certainly gone up in my estimations.

Ken I abhor war but you do have to stand up and be counted sometimes. If everyone just washed their hands of a potential war situation on the basis they just didn't agree with war full stop we would be living in a country of total dictatorship (as opposed to the partial dictatorship this country has opted for (yes I am a smoker so shoot me).

Anne I am sure Prince Harry's safety was protected more than Joe Public but it was a war zone regardless with the inherent dangers. Credit where it is due Harry could easily have opted out but he pressurised the Queen to ensure he could go.

I have a lot of respect for all our servicemen both past and present, Its a shame they don't get support from some of their fellow countrymen.

Byron - that's cruelty. Welease the ant!
I'm with you, Damellon. The eternal glass jar is an ant's hell. Especially when it's blue and they think they see the sky.

There's not even a remote shadow of a doubt with me that Prince Harry placed himself in danger by going to Afghanistan. There's not a thing that's predictable about going there. Even if he were protected to the military max [which I don't believe for a minute he was], it would still have been no real insurance. My respect and kudos to him... let's see the Bush girls go over, even to do office work in the Green Zone of Iraq, or anywhere in Afghanistan.

So you are predicting unpredictability then, Lizzy?

So, geoffreykins, are we entering a theme on fate - V - existentialism ?
Is predictability foretold or readily prepared for us, or are we all like 'Tommy,' bouncing our lifetimes on a pinball machine...? :?:

i doubt it, byron - at least with me as a major participant. even as a child i was hopeless at keeping my go-cart on the path. it doesn't take long before i yearn to be anywhere else than where i am. psychologists call it 'grasshopper syndrome'. but please feel free to debate fate versus existentialism if you want to - i may even jump in from time to time.

Gosh, I never expected an answer, but it just goes to show how much we are condemned to our successions. I borrowed that last bit from Emperor Napoleon, and altered the conception of thought processes in human minds.

Don't take a gun to a snowball fight.
Don't take a gun to a snowball fight.
Don't take a gun to a snowball fight.

I couldn't believe what I've just seen from Washington DC.

A large crowd was having a great time enjoying a snowball fight.

A Hummer stopped and the driver got out, carrying and brandishing his GUN. He was angry because he'd been hit by a snowball !!!

He is a Detective!! He was threatening the crowd. They started to chant "Don't take a gun to a snowball fight."
Uniformed Police turned up (Brandishing their guns)

The detective is now working behind a desk.

Merry Christmas.

I'm off to have some hot chocolate muffins..........

MAY WEST: "Is that a snowball in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?"...
