jeany wrote: Could someone explain what is the Leonard Cohen bi annual Event,? what is involved in organising this for Ireland ?. If planning a Sligo reunion for Cohenites in 2011, I suggest it be held over the August Bank Holiday weekend to coincide with the anniversary of the concerts.
I believe the Leonard Cohen Event is spoken for up to 2014,
so the earliest we may hope to host the Event is 2016 :!: .
Regarding a reunion in Sligo I think it is best if we stick with celebrating Leonard's birthday
and pick the weekend nearest to the 21st September for reunion,
But all depends on what other Members say

I suppose the birthday makes better sense for reunion. We can bring it up next year and find out if we can organise something. When I was in Mullaghmore one of the hotel staff told me that Leonard went into the public bar on his first night in the Pier hotel , he sat at the end of the counter on his own and drank a few pints of Smithwicks. The man he sat beside did not know him and they chatted away for awhile then others came up and spoke to him. Leonard stayed in the bar for about ninety minutes. That was before the fans found out where he was staying !.

List of Contributors to the Lissadell Plaque project.
I use the Forum name for some donations and off-Forum name for others.
The amount suggested as contribution was 10 euro, some people gave more than 10 euro.
In total we had 18 contributions amounting to 326 euro.
Amounts varied from 5 euro to 75 euro ($100).
I have to discuss with Isobel Cassidy how best we can display some form of permanent record at Lissadell of Contributors using their off-Forum names and addresses.
The expenditure on the Plaque and some plants and shrubs came to 340 euro.
( I got to make a contribution of 14 euro to balance the total :!: .)

I have a list of amounts collected from each donor and in the interest of accounting for total amount collected I will share this list via email with any of the contributors should they request a copy.
Anonymous x 1 contribution.

A big "THANK YOU" to all who participated in this venture and also to "frelander" for the original suggestion to plant a Canadian Maple tree and for sourcing and delivering the tree to Sligo.
I hope some of you will make it to Sligo for a reunion planned for the weekend of 17th / 18th Sept. 2011 in Sligo to celebrate Leonard's 77th Birthday ;-) .

Thanks for this info Mick, much appreciated. I thought we were going to try and make the weekend the one following Leonards birthday so as not to clash with the All Ireland final?

In other news Leonard and co saw my flag in Katowice Monday night. Although I was due to be in the balcony a kind forum member had a spare 4th row ticket and offered it to me!!! Needless to say I was delighted. Just before the 1st encore and So Long Marianne a few of us moved to the aisle and I stood holding the flag. Leonard was off stage but the rest of the band were finishing the music and they all saw it and started smiling and a couple waved. Once the music stopped we rushed to the stage where I was at the centre and I draped the flag across the barrier. Leonard came back on stage and had a curious look on his face as he read it and his face broke into a beautiful smile. I was estactic :D So Long Marianne was a blur!!! The audience was unusually quiet but I still sang along and during Closing Time I was singing to every word and Leonard noticed and smiled again :D Then at the end as the band left the stage Dino blew me kisses :D I already have my photos of this gig linked on the Katowice report page. I'm about to type my review which I wrote in a notebook on the train from Katowice to Krakow and will link that there too :D

Okay musicmania, depending on interest and response we should try organise the weekend 24th / 25th Sept. 2011 as Sligo reunion time for Leonard's 77th birthday... ;-)

September is bad for me I'm afraid. Around the date of the concert would be better.

The problem with that weekend is that there will more than likely be more concerts on in Lissadell which would mean no access to the grounds and 1000's of people everywhere!

I am in hospital for a few days for tests, so a bit cloudy (nothing serious).
Sharing content of email from Isobel Cassidy with latest on our Lissadell Plaque.
Note the picture of Leonard in the link below with members of the Walsh and Cassidy families in the Yeats Gallery at Lissadell.
John Joe Cassidy told musicmania and meself a story relating to that meeting-
when Leonard was introduced to little Eddie,
Leonard said "hello young Eddie" and Eddie replied "hello" ( 5 second pause) -- "Leonard Cohen".
J.J. said Leonard got a great laugh out of that....... ;-)
Here is the email and link from Isobel

Ahh, the gorgeous photos filled me with nostalgia and longing to be there again. I can see LC getting a chuckle out of Little Eddie's response. I know it made me chuckle

A big thank you to Isobell for keeping us informed regarding the tree / plaque. I like the picture of Eddie Walsh, junior, lying beside the Plaque. A suggestion, do not pick a date for the Sligo reunion until we find out if some concert is planned for Lissadell in 2011. Would picking somewhere in Dublin for the reunion make it handy for many fans ? (it would for me).
