Worn down poet’s shoes with a hole
in every heel and every soul
Tough times for poets
Owing to recession
The accession of the moon
Didn’t come so soon
Delayed to July
And a failure to swoon
In the allotted month
On which poets rely
Tough time for poets
With a Government imposed syntax
Depletion not completion
A 30% cut
Sentences start
But...
Tough time for poets
With a curse on swearing
And a wholesale ban on clichés
And the glass is not half empty
And the glass is not half full
and if compelled to talk
About the fucking glass at all
It’s smashed and cutting,
A shard for every bard,
Lose more than a metre of blood
The justified deaths of useless poets
They are the ones
who don't even know it

I feel that way, sometimes.
Incidentally: Bev, since you're likely to be reading these posts, please do not take personally solong's derision of clichés -- after all, your innocent and well-meaning words seem to have inspired a rather inspired "
pome" by our resident bard of the barristers! It's jolly good!

Scandalatum Magnatum? Thinking rather highly of yourself today, I see.

At first I wondered what "Handel" has to do with anything around here, but of course, he's the guy who wrote "Hallelujah", and Bev is our resident expert on that song, and so it all makes sense now.

Re "Tough Times."
I rate this attempt five stars, well done, I read it multiple times. At first I couldn't discern the meter, but then I saw it in the last verse.

the most joys I have had in the last few day
1. eating my disgusting, perhaps uniquely disgusting designer salad, I have mentioned it before and not received a single Thanks for the recipe, Apple, banana, cheddar cheese, nuts and raisins, covered in mayonnaise
2. writing a parody removed to the politics forum first time around but here it repeats, SSSHHHH
"It's three in the morning, the start of October
I'm writing you now just to see if you're sober
Biden is old, but I think he’s still living
Compared to that Cunt on Street, Trump I’m not forgiving
I hear that you're voting by mail
You're voting 6 times now,
I hope you're keeping some kind of record.
Yes, and Trump cums by with a cock on your hair
He said that he gave it to you, no consent there.
“He’s not quite monogamous”
That night that he planned to go queer
Did he ever go queer?
3. a woman I fell for, based on her fabulous talent and one walk in the park a few months ago, we emailed today. I reckons a second walks will comes before the 10 years be through
These are my Reasons To Be Cheerful! 1,2,3!

You seem to have added apple since a previous mention of this "Top Salad", as you referred to it a few years ago. While you may not have received "
a single Thanks for the recipe", your post did result in two pages of discussion:

You have either been committed, or you're in jail. (Am I correct?)
Trying to escape is hardly "good behaviour", and if you keep trying to run off, they may just tighten your chains and put an extra lock on your door.
By the way, I like the title of your picture.

thank you for the interest, for the curiosity. some people possess no such qualities, consider not for a moment their environment. tennis players have little or no knowledge of dzhanibekov, for example. approach your prey with the wind on your back and you'll probably stay hungry. so remain alert, be cunning, fight adversity, nurture inquisitiveness. only amateurs wait for the right moment, the rest of us just do it.

Well, Geoffrey, I can't say that I share your rather brutal outlook on life and other people, but I do like that colourful portrait of young Leonard!
